I'm having bloods taken next week and I was just curious as to what they test for as my doctor didn't really explain much to me.

What do they normally test for and what happens if it comes back abnormal? what normally happens after that?

I'm having a scan after the blood tests. will this be a ultrasound? what did you have if you have been tested?

Hi,
They will do a full blood count to make sure nothing else is wrong, they will do a thyroid (my doctor is doing this for me because of my pocs), they should also do a hormonal check and may ask you to count 21 days from your next period to see if you are ovulating then take more blood. If your getting a scan yes it will be an ultrascan you need to drink 2 liters of water prior to this - around 2 hours.

When you get your results back they will just tell you what options are available for you - if your trying for a baby then don't allow them to put you on the pill.

If it comes back that your not ovulating enough they will most likely put you on metformin and clomid if this fails then they will up the dosage of clomid then if this fails you may have to snort a hormone to help you ovulate then after that its IVF!

If you want to know anything else I'll do my best to help I have been dealing with POCS for 5/6 years.

P.S also ask them to do a test for diabetes as this is also common with POCS.

Just to give you some hope. I have been diagnosed with POCS for over 15 years. Recently I have also been diagnosed with an over active thyroid. I started medication for my thyroid & 6 months later I am now pregnant. Before that we were trying for a good 2 years to fall pregnant, it may take time but it can happen :) try and stay strong & make sure you doctor does all the neccesary tests. Good luck!
