For those of you with PCOS

What are your symptoms?

How were you diagnosed? What is the procedure for diagnosing?

I ask because I just had my blood tested after my doctor suspected possible hypothyroidism or PCOS. Lab results were normal.

Is testing blood the way to diagnose PCOS or is via ultrasound?

I will be happy but almost....angry...if testing blood diagnoses it. Because that means I don't have it, meaning my irregular cycle, weight gain, etc has is unexplainable.

Hi

I have had similar issues....my cycle all over the place, weight gain, bad skin, hair loss and one ovarian cyst that I know of. All unexplained.

My thyroid has been checked and its fine. I had a day 21 blood test and found I have low progesterone. Im taking Clomid and next monday I have an internal scan and they are going to take a good look at my ovaries then!

Hopefully i shall know more then but PCOS has been mentioned.

What did they test, when they drew your blood? There are some hormones that can point towards PCOS, but bloodwork alone won't diagnose it.

Ovarian cysts alone won't diagnose it either.

There's also weight gain, long anovulatory cycles, lack of period, obesity, excessive hair, skin flaps (tags)...

It takes more than just one blood test or one ultrasound look at your reproductive organs.

My blood was tested yesterday. I called my doctor's office to ask how long it takes to get results, (I expected it would be sometime next week) and they said they had them in now, everything appears normal.

I do have irregular cycles (sometimes)
I am overweight and have a hard time losing...

I can't say anything about hair gain/loss. I don't notice any.
No skin tags.
No dark patches of skin.

My symptoms were..
  • Over growth of hair
  • No period and Ovulation at all my myself

I was diagnosed with blood work and a ultrasound. They said my testostrone levels were a lot higher then they were suppose to be. And my ultrasound sound cysts on my ovaries.

Usually they need to do blood work and ulrasound to diagnose it. Because woman can have the cysts with no sign in there blood.

Correct me if I'm wrong please. Not sure if I got it exactly correct.

Ok so if they have done bloodwork and found nothing abnormal, would that mean that I do not have it?

Again, it depends on what was, in fact, tested. Did you get the bloodwork done on certain days of your cycle? Because some hormones need to be tested on certain dates, or as close to those dates as possible (for people with really irregular cycles).

Did they test your FSH? LH? Thyroid? Progesterone? Testosterone?

Blood sugar levels?

Once they have what they need, they should do an ultrasound as well.

When I had my bloods done they all came back normal,

My symptoms are... no AF for months at a time, excess hair (normally pluck every day) and cysts on my ovaries.
I am a normal weight and dont struggle with acne.

It shows all us women are different, I would also say speak to your mum, grandparents and aunts. I found out all mine have it :)

xx
