Hi sorry to bother everyone again but i am a little puzzelled and worried. I just rang up to arrange a HSG as i was instructed to and they said i have also been refered for a pelvic unltrasound. I am currently having follicle tracking to which they said i am ovulating and everything looks failry normal apart from a slightly thin womb lining and a small cyst on one ovary. Suddenly out of the blue i have been told over the phonje i have been refered for the pelvic ultrasound too which noone has mentioned. I asked why and they said well to be honest sometimes they do ask for it along with a HSG as par for course but ask at he RMU why you have to have that too. So i rang up to arrange my follicle tracking appointment a few mins ago and asked there but she could not tell me and simply said when you come in on firday ask the nurse as they will have your notes infront of them.

Does anyone know why you get refered for a pelvic ultrasound? What is the difference between that and an internal ultrasound with follicle tracking? Is it par for course and nothing to worry about jsut they arrange it when you have HSG? Could it be they suspect or are foinding some problem and want to do an untrasound to check? So far all bloods have come back or and all swabs were clean so what could they be suspecting.

I am a little annoyed this has just been thrown into a conversation over hte phone. I have been for about 9 appointements so far and this has never been mentioned.

Please advice as i am now a bit worried and dont know if i have reason to be?

Hey Choccie

I had both done a the same time through the FS - i was told they often do them together.

The pelvic ultrasound was fine - it's like a metal wand and they put a sheath over it then insert it and lok on the monitor - they can see your follicles and check for any endo and i belive PCSO shows up on this as well. It took about 5 mins and was not painful at all - the only bit that made me laugh is when they were pressing it against my g-spot and rather than make me feel fruity i wanted to pee! lovely!

About 1 hour after i had the transvaginal ultrasound i had my HSG - It's the same as the smear and it was just a sharp scratch when they entered my cervix - if you breathe and relax its much quicker and she just flushes the dye through and takes radiographic pics. As soon as she took the speculum out it was more comfortable and it was done in less than 10 mins. I got to see the pics and she told me then and there how my tubes were and showed me my womb and everything around it. I was pleased i got the results at the same time. After they have finished you get given a sanitary pad as the clear thick dye comes out - i spotted very slightly with very mild cramps and was fine an hour later. I'm a bit wuss with these things and it was absolutely okay - promise!!

Is it your FS that is arranging all this? if it is - i had my bloods done at the GP and then these 2 procedures done through the FS (DH had SA's done). We got told we were having all this done to make sure i was okay for ICSI as we see the consultant in Feb :hugs:

I think its something to do with having a full bladder? As you'd know, you have an empty bladder for the FT scans, but a pelvic ultra sound to check things out requires a full bladder. I can't say for sure, but I think its more to check and investigate the uterus??

Its annoying how they always leave us in the dark hey?

I hope your nurse can give you some answers :hugs:

Thanks guys

Well i am already having the transvaginal ultrasounds with the follicle tracking over a cycle. This is a pelvic ultrasound so is differnet. I think it maybe to do with the fact that my uterine lining is on the this side? I dont know why the external ultra sound can help them see more than the internal ones i am already having but hey they know more than us eh???

I have had all bloods done an been told they have all come back normal i.e. FSH, LH, thyroid, blood count, liver function, etc etc all the normal ones. I had progrestrone taken again on day 17 with follicle tracking to see how that was, prolly due to the thin womb lining? Still wating for that result as the last one i had done on day 21 was messed up by docs.

You are right on the bladder tho apprently i have to have a full bladder for both pelvic ultrasound and the HSG??? She told me to drink a pint of water an hr before i go! With trands vaginal ultra sound you are right you need an empty bladder.

Anyways guys yes tis really annoying i am not getting told everything clearly and to be honest i have found this all the way through this part of the process after seeing a different person each time for follicle tracking etc its like trying to get blood out of a stone.
Thanks for putting my mind at rest regarding the HSG and that tho. Still a little concerned about why they would want to do a pelvic ultrasound but it probably is just a nornmal request as i am haviong HSG. Will ask nurse on friday and come back and let everyone know if it is normal.

Fingers crossed they dont find anything sinister........hopefully they might find that skinny woman inside me trying to get out hey :)
