So I was at a cheer competition yesterday and the woman sitting in front of me (who had a baby too..a 9 month old I found out when we spoke later) kept looking back at us. I could tell she was trying to be discreet..but I noticed. It's not the first time he's gotten second glances. I told my mom I bet she was trying to figure out my LO's age. He's 7 months. He's only 10 1/2lbs but he has full head control and can sit really well assisted. You can just tell that he's older then he looks. I'm sure you ladies know what I mean. Anyway, her husband came and sat next to her, they talked and then he started looking back at us. Finally, he turned around and asked how old my LO was. When I told them 7 months, her face was in such shock..almost like she was appalled. She couldn't of looked more shocked if someone punched her in the face. Seriously, her reaction was overly dramatic to be honest. I told them he was a preemie but they still looked shocked.

Anyone else get crazy reactions from people.

I used to tell her age with pride - then I realised it was becoming a pain in the ass with strangers - which is why I just took to lying a lot  I honestley couldnt be arsed with the questions, the false stories people used to tell me ("oh my uncles grans sisters daughter had a baby born at [enter impossible stat here]")

I got this a lot as my daughter was in 3-6 month clothes when she started walking! Even now at 4 she is only in 2-3Y clothes so I still get it.

My term baby is 7 months old and he is in the 9th percentile which is a lot bigger than his sister who is in 0.4th centile but I get comments on him being small too. I am so used to it now it stopped bothering me.

I just had this experience today. She had a doctors appointment and we stopped for lunch afterwards. Everyone who walked by was fawning all over how cute she was and asking how old she was. Everyone was shocked that she is 10 weeks old. I can only imagine the reactions as she gets older. I'm sure it gets quite old.

Rio has caught up a fair bit now but I always used to get this too.
One very rude lady asked how old he was once in a shop and when I replied 4 months she tutted at me and said "don't you mean 4 weeks!!!" .. I know how old my own child is!!!

I haven't gotten comments like that yet! LO is 10 months old and is 7 months adjusted and he's pretty "caught up" (I hate that phrase). He's like 18lbs and is wearing 9mos clothes so while developmentally he's obviously not like a 10 month old and more on par with being 7 months, it's not that big of a difference to anyone who sees him :)

We get alot of reactions. My son is 10m almost and 8m corrected but very small, 3m clothes and very delayed at about 3m developmentally so lots of confusion. To add to it he has a very big head thats shot up the charts so when he's wrapped up he does look older then you see the faces when we take his blankie off:wacko:

Item ember went I bought my little one home went into mothercare and people would say isn't he tiny. He weighed 4lb 9oz at this point but there face was a picture when I said he was 3 months old lol

I get this. With strangers, I lie, a lot. Just today someone was looking at her and goes "9 months?" I,replied "she's a year" well actually she's just shy,of,15 months ;) she's not even *that* small!!!

I get the "aww she's a new one!" Then when I say "kinda, she's almost 5 months" their jaws drop and I giggle inside.

I get this the opposite way my baby was born on the 9th centile.. He's shot up over 75th. He's always been very long and when they say how old is he 2/3 hmmm no he's not even 18 months yet. If they are that inconsiderate to question you when you tell them the truth just laugh at them and walk away :) or smile and nod will soon pee them off :)

I get it all the time. DD is 10 months today and still in 0-3 clothing and 13lb 3oz, so when they see her standing folk look a bit shocked. Or when they ask her age I tell them, wait for the OMG, then tell them she was 11w early with a few complications. She's perfect now, just in miniature

I get some of that and he will be 2 in june. My fav was a girl who asked me how a baby as little as him could walk. It went right over my head and I said, same way you do.....
later I realized why. He was 18 months old and still wearing 9 mo onesies weighing only 13lbs.

Oh 25weeker I remember you! If you recall my son was tiny too, 1lb4oz. He's also 4 (in a week) and just today I was putting away pants that are too small.. They were size 18m :dohh: he's slowly catching up, he was born 2nd percentile or and is now around 5. He's 10 in height but 3 in weight (29 pounds). Its reassuring to hear that our preemies are similar and doing well :hugs:

By comparison his 4 month old sister weighs a whopping 15 pounds  90+ percentile Wearing 9m clothes and only two diaper sizes smaller than her brother. Just today i tried 24m leggings on her and besides being ridiculously long they were snug over her cloth diapers. apparently I only make extreme models haha

But with my preemie I always gave his corrected age. Even then I got lots of stares and comments. When someone was rude and/or I'd feel mean as a result I'd give his real age and just enjoy the confused reactions
