hiii . Im due to see a genetic doctor next month as this was suggested before ttc, regarding my chromosome problem which is a balanced inversion of chromosome 10 . Im fairly worried what kind of problems this chromosome problem may bring. any of you got this? any stories?xx

Hi. My husband has a pericentric inversion on #3. We have been trying to conceive for a year and had one miscarriage. We met with a geneticist who told us invetro was our best option for a biological child but they could not give us a success rate for conceiving a baby without an abnormality due to the lack of case studies on his inversion on #3. Last year was the worst year of our lives. We have taken a time out from seeing the fertility specialist while my husband's parents get tested to see if he inherited this from one of them or is he is a new abnormality. If one of them has it, our chances are better for a successful pregnancy because they had two kids. While my husband has the abnormality, he leads a normal life because the genes are not missing just in a different order due to the inversion. hate being in limbo...

Hi starfall. My husband has an inversion on chromosome 5. His dad also has it and they had 3 children, but over a span of 14 years (they never prevented). So in our case, it is possible to have children naturally, it just takes longer. We did PGD a few years ago, and out of 6 embryos, only 1 was unbalanced on chromosome 5 (there were 3 chromosome 5); the rest had the same inversion as my husband. We got a beautiful boy out of the procedure, he is 3 now. Good luck to you and be careful with what people tell you --- we were told crazy things by doctors who don't really understand the issue ( like, a doctor said we would need donor sperm bc of the inversion, which is completely wrong).

Hi Starfall,
I'm sorry to hear that you have the extra challenge of an inversion. My DH has the same inversion as your husband. I think it is interesting that your husband's parents are getting tested because this was not suggested to us. I hope he inherited his inversion because that sounds like it will give you both extra hope!

We are undergoing IVF with ICSI (DH also has low sperm) and of course PGD because of the inversion. I was under stimulated during my first cycle and our RE believes he will get more mature eggs from me this time around. 5 embryos fertilized in our first cycle but their development arrested on day 3 before the PGD testing could be done. I strongly believe, based on our RE's experience with cases similar to ours, that we just have to stick with it, get as many mature eggs/embryos as possible at each cycle and eventually the numbers will be in our favor!

Hang in there and good luck… we start our 2nd cycle in about 10 days so I promise to come back on here and let you know how it goes after our retrieval. I hope to have good and encouraging news for you!

Sincerely,
MissMyWine

Thank you for sharing this story… I just read it to my husband and it makes us both feel very hopeful!
