I am 2 years post delivery and finally got the news that I already knew. I did not heal properly after my perineal tear repair during delivery. My ob/gyn recommends a minor reconstructive surgery or wait to see if I have another child. I won't consider the surgery until I am finished having children. The area that didn't heal correctly, is very tight and painful. It's extremely tender during sex (initially, then gets better). My question is for any of you that have had a badly healed perineum. Did you opt for surgery or have another child after? I'm just looking for any experiences that may put my mind at ease.

After my first my episiotomy didn't heal properly. At 7months postnatal I had a small op to make it a bit better but held off fixing it properly until I'd finished having kids. I've had my second now and not planning on anymore so going to get referred to my doctor again to sort it out this time x

I've just had my second baby (and incidentally had a tear they didn't stitch which hasn't healed together!!)

I had lots of problems with pop and my epi so I'm going to get a referral to get it all fixed now. Defo wait til done having kids

My stitches from DS1 fell out almost right away and my second degree tear didn't close. I don't think I'll get surgery because it doesn't bother me aside from it looking weird. My OB said I could have surgery to fix but he wouldn't consider doing it until I was finished having kids since it would prob tear again. I am going to ask him what the surgery is like, and what type of anesthetic.. I guess it depends on the repair, but does anyone know if they just use local anesthetic or do you have to get an epidural?

When I had my minor repair, they gave me a general anaesthetic. I did ask about a spinal but the Consultant wanted a GA.

Had my first baby vaginal 2nd degree tear got stitches. Felt like they never closed completely uncomfortable and had some pain see ob that delivered me he said everything was fine and healing still no improvement seen a gyno told me everything looked fine I knew it wasn't!!! my son 10 months old and still discomfort and pain and a huge gap down there I was determined find someone who would understand till I found the one ob female doc who actually listened and cared. Had to get surgery she re did the stitches took long to heal over three months but now it feels great no more gap and no more pain age saved my vagina!! SO IF U FEEL THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG LISTEN TO UR BODY & DONT GIVE UP!! remember I'll know itself better than anyone
