So I thought I stopped bleeding a couple of days ago. Nothing was happening down there and I totally got my hopes up thinking I'll get some booty...haha! Then today, Im bleeding, its very "fresh and voluminous" with fairly bright red blood..very period like, but no cramps...could it be :witch: 3 weeks post delivery or is that a tad too early??

mine didnt cme till 4 month after bby was born. i breastfed so i tink tats y!

r u feeding urself or bottle?

i didnt experence any cramps when my first period came

I pump more than I actually breastfeed. Maybe my hooha is just playing a joke on me.."You wanna get laid, here, lemme stop the bleeding, SIKE!!"

If I remember correctly the average return of menstruation for mom's who do NOT have lactation amenorrhea (no period because of breastfeeding) is 4-8 weeks post partum.

Because you're pumping mostly, I'm not sure how this would affect your return to fertility. You may also note that just because you have a period does not mean you are ovulating... it takes some women a long time to rev their body back up for that after having baby.

Prolactin does inhibit ovulation and menstruation, but with my first (whom I was cosleeping with, and feeding on demand i.e. ecological breastfeeding) I had a period at 4 weeks. :dohh:

I'm 12 years older, and I assume less fertile, so I'm not sure what to expect with this one. I was also hoping things were slowing down for me 'down there' I had 2 days of just cervical discharge type stuff, but now yesterday and today - bright red again.

(:hissy: I wanna :sex: too)

Thats exactly how mine was too. It slowed down to minor discharge and then it stopped for 2 days altogether before returning to bright red again this morning!!

Im an idiot for not getting it on in those 2 days then. :dohh:

Deise it's still considered post-partum bleeding unless you have stopped bleeding for more then four days straight. I've had this off and on to this day.

Oh, cool. Thanks!!

I bled on and off for 5 weeks after I had Erica. Since then, no period! =)

I think you should contact a doctor or midwife just to be sure. Especially if it's heavy. I had something similar at 2 weeks post partum where my blood loss suddenly became bright red and heavy again and it was the start of me hemmoraging. I don't want to scare you and it probably isn't happening to you but it's best to get medical advice to be on the safe side. It can happen any time from 24 hours to a month after the birth but usually happens at about 2 weeks post partum.

I was told that lochia should only be red for the first 4 or 5 days and then begin to change and if it was fading off and then you suddenly get fresh blood again that it can be a cause for concern.

How can I tell whether my postpartum bleeding is normal or I'm hemorrhaging?

All new moms have vaginal bleeding and discharge, known as lochia, in the days after childbirth, as the uterus sheds its thick lining of tissue from the pregnancy. Lochia is normally bright red at first, and it should get progressively lighter in color and amount as the blood diminishes. But if bright red bleeding continues after four days, or if at any time you seem to be bleeding more instead of less, it could indicate a problem.

In extreme cases, you may have what's called a late (or delayed) postpartum hemorrhage. By definition, late postpartum hemorrhage is profuse bleeding that occurs between 24 hours and six weeks after childbirth, though it typically occurs one to two weeks postpartum. Call your caregiver right away if you notice any of these signs of abnormal bleeding:
• Soaking more than one sanitary pad in an hour

• Bright red bleeding that occurs four days or more after delivery

• Blood clots bigger than a golf ball

Interesting. Mine has been red since I had her. Today it started to be bright red again. I'm watching to make sure that it's not getting heavier, but i'll keep a closer eye on it.
