I don't believe folic acid will mess up your periods at all but I definitely don't know for sure. You might have better luck asking in the Trying to Conceive forum.

I used to take regular folic acid pills that I bought at cvs and never experienced any bleeding at all besides my usual period. Once I told my gyno. that I was stopping my birth control she started prescribing me prenatal pills. I guess everyone is different, but you could always call your gyno and ask if the bleeding is normal? Hope all is well!!
