Just a reminder that this petition closes at the end of August, and needs 100k votes in order for the Government to agree to debate the issue. Without these signatures, the issue will continue to be ignored. Theres currenly just under 50k siggies, so theres a long way to go!
The previous government made a commitment to fund 5000 more midwives, acknowledging that it would be essential in order to offer women the care they need and deserve in pregnancy and birth. At a time when midwives are increasingly becoming the lead health professional in maternity care (with less women being referred to consultant led care), we need more midwives, NOT less!
