Well, since being pregnant my phobias seem to be much worse. I have always had a phobia of cotton wool, it is probably much worse than it should be because my uncle used to threaten me with it when I was younger and pull it through his teeth because he knew I didn't like it! Needless to say I no longer speak to that uncle..... I am also terrified that I won't be able to use it for the baby :-(

Also, rats :-( I am absolutely petrified of them, I don't know why but I do remember seeing one run across town once and it scared me to death! Oh and I remember accidently killing my friends pet rat when I was little. I happened to leave a pair of my knickers on top of the rats cage and the silly thing ate them and died!!!!

Anyway, does anybody else feel that there phobias are worse now?

xx

im with you on the cotton wool one, I HATE it! Spiders are another and it doest help with it being spider season now :(

It is awful stuff isn't it :-( I am a bit nervous about what the hospital will say to me when I've had the baby because they usually encourage you to use cotton wool on the baby rather than baby wipes. I don't know how I will do it. Oh and I agree, spiders aren't nice at all! x

I don't have any phobias so I find it difficult to understand them sometimes. Can't you just gradually make yourself overcome the fear?? Like force yourself to use some every day.

Cotton wool isn't so much a fear, but I really really don't like it and it does make me feel sick when I think about it. I probably could gradually tolerate it, but I have no desire to do it :-(

I'm not afraid of cotton wool in the slightest but I don't use it for anything, haven't used it for years and didn't use it whenever I've looked after any babies, and haven't seen anyone else use it either with babies lol - so I reckon you should be fine. :)

My phobia is vomiting and when I found out I was pregnant I was absolutely terrified, but gradually resigned myself to the fact that if it happens, it happens, and when I felt sick I didn't start to panic like I usually would have. I never was sick in the end lol and all the nausea has gone away completely now (15+1) - so I actually think my phobia got better because I was able to put it into perspective a little bit. Don't get me wrong, I still think it'd make me very stressed to actually be sick, but I'm not so worried about it any more.

I have a phobia of bellybuttons. I just don't like them at all. I can handle seeing them but hate seeing anyone play with them and hate the feel of them. No idea where this came from..it's quite funny as so random. And mine will be popping out as i get bigger..eeww and when bumpy is born I'm going to have to clean theirs. I get by on mine by laughing at myself and as I have no choice just dealing with when have to and avoiding when I can. I think you will find the cottonwool one goes once you have bumpy as you will have to and it will become a very pleasant association. xxx

I was really afraid to drive when I was PG with my son. We had a few particularly bad 4-way stops near our apartment and you couldn't see around the corners, I always was terrified someone would hit me and I would lose him. I definitely agree that our fears are amplified during pregnancy, you just have to realize you're going overboard sometimes and try to calm yourself. It is easy to get carried away when you are pregnant, my poor hubby lol

I've never used cotton wool for my babies. Even in the hospital I just bought my own wipes, and nobody ever said anything. If a midwife tells you to use cotton wool, just tell them the truth - it's your baby, don't forget. You're her mum, and it's your choice what you use for her. Don't worry, you'll be fine hun,xx

Cotton wool through teeth...ugh thats made me go all shuddery ...ugh. Reminded me of my phobia of false teeth which when i was a child my grandad used to take his out and put them on the table next to me. Used to make me scream my head off! It was made even worse when i was 9 when moved to a large old victorian villa which unknown to any of us, used to be a dental surgery. Anyway, I'm looking around in this small junk room out the back and i find a really old lead casting of a set of teeth:shock:...that was it...the most awful thing ever and my parents kept the thing! They probably still have its grossness...Ugh!

I also have a terrible phobia of spiders which couldnt get any worse pregant or not, i tried to keep it contained so i didnt pass it on to my kids...doesnt help when im on my own with them in the house and the king of spiders appears...i just hoover it up at arms length .

I am not a fan of cotton wool either but I can stand people putting it in their mouth that Is my cringe! Kids chewing their jumpers, at the dentist. Yuck!! I am just going to use the wipes that say as pure as water and cotton wool on them x x x x

i wont be using cotton wool. so many people i know didnt and their babies are fine. its ur choice, i think wipes are just fine.

i dont have a huge phobia of spiders but the other day i saw one and screamed my head off!! so yeah i think ur phobias can get worse and you can even develop them. i now dread seeing anymore spiders. urgh the thought makes me shudder. x

It's great to know that not everybody uses cotton wool, my other half keeps expecting me to use it and I keep telling him I can't. Wet cotton wool? YUK! My phobias are definately worse since being pregnant, I keep having nightmares about rats :-( lol x

I also don't know anyone with babies who use cotton wool only one person when their babywipes ran out once. But it is much better for sensitive baby skin to just use water and cotton.

since iv been pregnant i get worried about driving and also going into places with lots of people like going into a supermarket on my own its really weird because ive never been like this before! Im fine when i do it because i know i have to but its just the sitting there and thinking about doing it! I start getting really worried and nervous! Strange!

Yeah I can't stand kids on scooters, they always nearly knock your bump. I HATE SCOOTERS WITH A PASSION!!!!!!!! so maybe that is my phobia?

ahhhh!! perhaps this explains me almost having a panic attack at my 12 week scan!! i hate giving blood and i just kept sayin "i'd rather give birth than give blood"! anyway, the midwife eventually had to take lood off me and i'd gotten myself that tense and worked up she couldn't get it off me and sent me off to hospital outpatients to give it there! i burst out crying and couldnt breathe!! (dramatic!!)
i've always hated it, but never this bad!! lol
