Phones & Children; what age do you think?

I work with kids, and I find that some have phones by age 10 (some, not all) and about 95% have phones by age 13. If that helps.

I know in our family we've gone with starting secondary school as the time for a first phone as it's also the time my nieces have had to go anywhere by themselves. I don't know how old your daughter is so can't really comment. I suppose my concern might be that if she is having an unsupervised visit having a phone that could be confiscated (if her father decides) could be used as a way of punishing or manipulating her - I realise I could be over thinking this.

How old is your LO?

My 7 year old sister has a phone.. I'm completely against it myself. She's not allowed it out of the house, but plays games on it at home. And if she goes to stay with me or my sister for a week/two, then she takes it so that she can facetime her Mum. She doesn't have a SIM Card in it.

I think it's the same situation with Laptops... We have a 6 year old asking for one. It's a catch 22. x

Mine was 12 before he had a phone. Its just scary what they can be exposed to or have access to once they have it.
