Photo too large?

I'm trying to insert a photo to appear with my posts but it is too large - does anyone know how to reduce the size of jpegs? I've tried to get a photo of my daughter on a few times:hissy

I'm trying to insert a photo that i've reduced to 29kb but it keeps saying photo failed - not sure why?

is it a JPEG file? or what is the file extention.

Yes, it's jpeg image 29kb. It shows up in my user profile but not when I write a thread
