I posted earlier about DS wheezing and struggling to catch his breath. Took him the out of hours GP and thankfully his chest is clear it's his nose is congested they said to keep him elevate to help him breath easier so I thought I'd put a pillow under his mattress I know many people do this is their baby has colic or similar does it make any difference in their breathing?

yes it would probably help if he is congested. We did this with DD as she had a lot of trouble with breathing and reflux when she was very young so yes I would give it a go. It cant hurt to try

It is strongly recommended not to put anything under a child's mattress this needs to stay flat. This was questioned by two separate midwives when we said we raised our daughters crib.

I agree elevating the Moses or crib helps with congestion but should be done by placing books or we have specific cot raisers to be used on the legs of the Moses stand or crib.

We have these

I understand why some wouldn't do it with small babies but he's one next month not exactly little anymore. Those blocks look quite good actually have to look into those for future reference. Just had heard about pillow under mattress was quite common in reflux or congested babies he's been asleep for 5 hours and seems ok so far even if he has rolled onto his side lol

Yeh its not recommended in most cases. Different professionals recommend different things we had three peadeatricians and a bunch of nurses recommend what we did.

My DS is 6 months old and has a terrible cold right now, with wheezing and congestion, so we raised up his mattress at one end a little bit too and it's helped a lot with his sleeping at night.

Instead of using a pillow which we found too bulky, we used some rolled up beach towels under the mattress at one end. The towels reach the entire width of the mattress so it's fully supported and sits evenly still. DS flops all over the place in his sleep and usually in the morning when I get him up he's down at the foot of his crib because he's wiggled down the slope! :haha:

I didn't try it, but I think our pediatrician recommended to raise part of the mattress when LO had congestion. I didn't try it because LO just rolls all over the crib so I didn't see how he'd stay in once place for it to help. However it may be worth doing for your LO.
