DD, DS, and pregnant!

I had a placental abruption with my DS and he was born at 31w6d. I had no clue how rare this was until I got pregnant again and met with a new (high risk) OBGYN. Now, he's recommending that I get weekly shots of progesterone to help prevent preterm labor again. Has anyone had these shots before? I'm curious of your side effects and if it hindered the natural progression of labor? The hormone is supposed to relax the muscles of the uterus, so I'm wondering if it effects contractions?
