So after discussion with midwife on wed, she is more than happy for me to have a homebirth, so i have to go back with a definate yes or no at my next app  right now its a defo yes :happydance: ive done a bit of reasearch on it, but just wondering if you ladies have any good websites to visit etc....or any other info to help prepare etc. x

I'm a first timer having a homebirth as well! Well I say that, I haven't actually told my midwife yet but there really shouldn't be a problem. Two things have really helped me.

1.) AIMS - If you're in the UK it's an organization that lets women know their rights. Though it sounds like you have a very understanding midwife so shouldn't be a problem

2.) Hypnobirthing - Though it has been amazing for the practical side of things like relaxation and breathing. More so it has given me the confidence that I can do it at home and actually would prefer it.

WOw you have to decide already...

I want one too but DH is not convinced so we will see.

I bought a really good book called birthing the easy way by sheila stubbs she is a canadian author and its all about home birth.

The websites I have looked at are:
https://www.gentlebirth.org/index.html
https://www.birthingtheeasyway.com/
https://bringbirthhome.com/
https://www.homebirth.org.uk/
https://www.homebirth.org.uk/blokesven.htm
https://www.homebirthbook.com/1.html
https://www.choicemidwives.org/?page_id=22
https://www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/articles/2006/06/27/kurt_dads_childbirth_feature.shtml
https://www.midwiferytoday.com/articles/papatoto.asp
https://natality.co.uk/content/view/30/9/
https://www.homebirth.org.uk/blokes.htm

Alot of the websites I have here are specifically for dad but there is a lot of good information in them too. Good Luck on making your decision.

Also if your from the UK join the yahoo homebirth group i found them really helpful when i encountered problems
xx

Just wanted to mention that you dont have to decide so early - now I'm not saying dont because it's fantastic that you are BUT for mummies not sure, they dont need to feel pressured into a decision. I didnt decide to have a home birth till the 3rd tri and I've known women change to home at 37 weeks!
The main thing to remember is that you can plan a HB and change your mind at anytime and get the MW to transfer you to the birth centre or hospital - even during labour! but you cant go to the hospital and decide in labour you'd like to take the MW home for a home birth :winkwink:

Enjoy planning!!! I love it when people are so organised! x

Thanks for that hun :flower: i was confused as i read threads about woman deciding in 3rd tri etc......but then midwife said i need to have a definate decision by then  which i didnt understand, so thank you for that info hun x

Midwives say a lot of things they really shouldn't say.

I'm planning a first birth at home. So did the owner of the Bring Birth Home website. She has written quite a lot on it which is really inspiring. If you can afford it, try and go for an antenatal course that is outside of a hospital and aimed at natural birthing. I have heard really good things about them.

In the UK NCT classes are great if you can afford them and there may be a home birth support group you can join for free. A fellow doula runs my local one and it's full of women planning or who have had their home births. Some doula's run birth preparation sessions separately to their 'antenatal / birth' packages if you werent thinking about a doula and some Hypnobirthing courses (and even the book to a degree) cover a lot of what the hopitals cover, but from a positive and more 'natural' perspective. :D There's ways of surrounding yourself with the 'right' kind of information without spending the earth :D
