I'm totally confused with the DPO's and BFP's etc!! I can guess what they mean but wondered if someone could explain the abbreviations to me pleases so I can get with the lingo and understand it all?

I'm TTC (I know that one lol) after my first cycle since a loss at 25 weeks on 3rd December. Think I ovulate late though, like day 21 rather than 10-14 like I read is average. Does anyone else have this? And if so, does it mean you can't detect pregnancy with a test early? As technically the egg hasn't been implanted as long as it would have been on a person who ovulated on day 14 for example. Does that make sense? The hormone level won't be as high on the day the wild is due??

Anyway, hello everyone :)

Hiya. You'll get the hang of the lingo pretty quickly. I was a googling fool when I first started, trying to figure out what everyone was talking about. :) Off the top of my head,
POAS= pee on a stick (take a test, either ovulation or pregnancy)
OPK = ovulation predictor kit (they can come in kits or on their own)
IC = internet cheapie. Tests you can buy online that are typically less than $1 per test. A typical brand is Wondfo.
BD = baby dance :sex:
OH = other half (until I googled that one, I thought this was some exotic, overseas version of DH, dear husband. LOL. Not everyone is married or heterosexual :dohh:)
SMEP = Sperm Meets Egg Plan
AF = Aunt Flo :witch:
CM = cervical mucous
CP = cervical position
BFP = big fat positive
BFN = big fat negative
BBT = basal body temperature
I'm sure I've forgotten a bunch, but that should get you started! :flower:

I'm not a late ovulator, but I don't think that's much of a problem unless you have a short luteal phase (LP). If the time between when you ovulate and start your next AF is less than two weeks, it might not give a fertilized egg enough time to implant. You should see a doctor if that's the case, because they may be able to lengthen your LP. Good luck!

Awwwwww thanks so much!! And what about DPO?? I keep readying 7 DPO for example. I'm so confused lol.
Never heard of LP but got pregnant 3 months after coming off pill last year so presumably it's all good?!
Thanks for your help xx

Days Post/Past Ovulation - basically we are all waiting for the day we can test!!! Lots of people start testing at 7 DPO even though we all know a BFP would be unlikely then!! It's depends a lot on what tests you use as if you are using ICs lots of people test early then tray a FRER (First Response Early Response I think) then if they are quite sure a CBD or Digi - Clear Blue digital where there is no line to interpret just words Pregnant or Not Pregnant!

Well that's my heirarcy of tests anyway!!! :wacko:

You're welcome! :) I'm sure all will be well, but don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen right away - the average healthy couple who's ttc only has a 20% chance of getting pregnant any given month! That's why we're here, to help each other through the ups and downs and questions of this crazy process.
:dust:
