Please describe your CVS or AMNIO experience here?

Well as you know mine did not go well... With the Amnio, it was a lot less frightening than I thought. They poked a needle into your tummy while they do a ultrasound so they don't hit the baby. It felt like a bee sting until it hit the uterus then there was cramping. It only took about 10 minutes. The worst of it is waiting for the results... Good luck...

I had the amnio done and I would do it again if I would get pregnant again. It just hurts a little when the needle goes in but nothing terrible. It took about 5 min the whole poking thing. I did not have a lot of cramping either. Just a little. I rested for 2 days after that. I actually say that the rhogan shot ( I am rh -) hurt much more then the actual amnio :haha:.

hi indigo! nice to see you here!
I had a CVS (instead of the amnio) as I wanted to do it sooner rather than later. I actually did not even go for the screening test (ie went straight for the diagnostic/genetic test).
Went to the hospital and got scanned to find out that my placenta was in a weird position so they would have had to go through my bladder to reach it, so not good obviously :haha:
I was then given three options: 1) wait for a week to see if the placenta would move, 2) have a trans-vaginal CVS, 3) Wait until 16weeks to have an amnio. Decided to go for 1) and luckily my placenta did change position and was now reachable.
There were 3 people in the room, a doctor and two nurses. They fisrt cleaned all my belly and put some staff with iodine and something else to keep it clean/sterile and gave me a shot of a mild anaesthetic in my belly. The doctor then inserted a thin cannula and a needle to get the sample. I felt like a brief period cramp and started to get anxious that would be just the beginning, when in fact it was already all over! So it must have taken 10 min max in total. They did all this while scanning the baby of course.
I had it doen on a Thursday so I took Thu and Friday off. I was not in pain at all, just a bit fragil, but I'd say this was mainly stress related.
Got my results 24 hs later - healthy baby boy, who by the way should be arriving any minute!!:happydance:

let me know if you have any questions - I did lots of research on teh screening and diagnostic tests ec te c

good luck!:flower:

Hi Indigo! I have mine on thursday. Did you decide one over the other?

After getting my risk results (1:160), I had a CVS and it did not go well. I was told my experience was atypical. I described it behind a spoiler in the July thread.

Good luck with your amnio. What were your risk results?

age alone 1:30. Then the NT and bloods moved it to 1:280

Doc doesnt seem to care as he is pushing for the amnio. So is a dr who is a close friend..... "you're 42, it's a must".....

I've had CVS done with both pregnancies. My uterus is retroverted so access through the cervical os was a bit tricky. Felt like an uncomfortable pap test (as mine typically are) but lasted less than 5 minutes each. No cramping, spotting or anything afterwards :flower: Yes, based on my personal and professional experience, your experience was rather rare, I'm so sorry you had to go through that

Just remember you don't HAVE to do anything, they can advise but can't force, go with your instinct x
