Hey ladies...

Wondering if any of you can help me. I've posted before about my housing situation but the short of it is, I'm living with a friend and his parents at the moment and have my own room here, I have to be out before baby is born because they just won't have me AND a baby here, which is perfectly understandable.

Went to the council, they can't help me. The man from the council told me that I can't claim housing benefit because I'm under 25 and they wouldn't give me enough to cover the cost of a flat. Not until the baby is here anyway, but by then I would be already homeless as I have to be out by then obviously.

I'm not working, I'm on jobseeker's allowance, £101.50 a fortnight of which I only get £50 because some annoying debt company want half of my money every month despite knowing that I'm pregnant and having to support myself with that. They're refusing to take less.

So there really is no hope for me apparently.

Although I get the feeling that wanker from the council was lying to me. I'm so sure that they can't not give you housing benefit to cover the cost of a flat just because you're under 25?

Oh and I have NO savings, and I can't afford the deposit for a flat either. I don't know what to do?!

That man from the council also said that my only hope is that when these people kick me out, the council may offer me temp accomodation, which I would have to pay for myself. So yeah, me, a baby, a cot, a pram, all my baby equipment, all in a b+b. Great fun.

Christ I'm so miserable I have no hope anymore.

Well first off - get your friend's parents to write a letter explaining and confirming that in x months you will be homeless. The council should then help you and offer temporary accomodation until a council house is found. This can be done as soon as you get the letter and you should NOT wait til you're baby is born. I have been told time and time again that I should have come in as early as possible to get help rather then leave things - so that guy was fibbing there.

I'm not sure - but pretty positive the under 25 thing is a bunch of BS too - since I'm 20, my partner is 22 and we have been told to apply for it.

In the same situation as you hun - though I'll be giving birth in 2 months - I'll keep you posted on any more ideas I have!

But don't fret - I've been homeless loads of times and there are always things you can do.

Finally I would suggest going back to the council and seeing someone esle - it's pot luck - one day you'll get the most useless horrible ******* and the next you might meet someone who is rather helpful.

Don't lose hope :) x

Thankyou hunny. I think that concil guy was feeding me a load of crap. I didn't like him he was creepy and kept looking down my top :hissy:

katie i just replied to this in the other thread - but i forgot to add the jobcentre told me on the phone to apply for housing benefit soon as i find a flat and agree with landlord etc - so he was def lying. were the same age. x

Yep - I had a look to double check and you can apply for housing benefit over 16. x

Hey hun that council guy was defo chattin out his arse!

I was living with my mum, she had to write a letter sayin she was kickin me out and since u are homeless and pregnant they legally have to house u wether it be in a b and b or a place of ur own!

My mum ahd to write the letter sayin she was kickin me out andi have to take i.d etc down there and then was put on the housin list and had to bid for housing and i am recieving housin g benefit while im on mat leave so go back there and dont take no shit, i kept gettin fobbed off till i let them know either they sort it out or i will go to the papers and let the world know how they treat pregnant women and also i complained to my caseworkers boss! Be firm hun!!! xxx

Debt companies can only take what you can afford, im in alot of debt and pay £40 a month, dont let them threten you, they will take what you can afford because it will cost them more to take you to court than you owe them. phone c.c.c.s x

While you have a roof over your head the council don't ee you as being homeless so you need to get a letter as the other girls have said then you will probably be put in a hostel or B&B until they can find you permanent housing. You can claim housing benefit if in doubt go to the CAB and they can talk you through it all they can also rearrange your debts for you as on JSA you are only getting the minimum the government thinks you need to live on so debt collection agencies are very restricted on what they can take from you. You could offer to pay them £1 a weeek and they would have to take it because of your circumstances. Don't let people take advantage and fob you off, do some research and find out what your rights are and fight toooth and nail for them hun x

You can get housing benefit over the age of 16 on benefits or low income. So not sure why that man at the council told you that you cant! Id go back down there and speak to somebody else hun.. They cant leave you homeless
