Hi

I have absolutely no idea of the child benefits or tax credit system over here as I'm from Ireland and moved here about 2 years ago.

Can anybody tell me how much or what I will be entitled to? I currently work and am on 14,000 a year, will be going on maternity for 6 months then back to work full time.

I'd really appreciate if someone could give me the amounts I could expect so I can figure out my finances - thanks so much in advance xxx

no one can tell u about tax credits as they r all different amounts for everyone just call ur tax credits office.

child benifit is £80 a month or every 4 weeks and everyone gets this x

no problem best to get it sorted now cuz 8 months down the line i still havent sorted my tax credits out im too busy with zane lol

Thanks again hun - I rang up and a very nice man explained it all to me how much I'll get etc

no problem, dont forget to get the forms sent off soon as u can i still havent sent mine off haha

good luck with pregnancy x

I get £115 a week from tax creds and child ben is £20 a week. Thats joint claims.

at that income aswell, you may get child tax credits at the higher element when LO arrives. If so you'll be entitled to the £500 sure start maternity grant too but you have to do it within the first 3 month of bubs life so you'll need to get a move on.

or from week 29 onwards in pregnancy for sure start.

unless she's on benefits though (but OP says employed) she can't get it in pregnancy. of course child tax credits aren't awarded until child benefit is claimed and a claim for child tax is put in, thats why the sure start maternity grant gives 3 months after LO born to apply for it. It's a really simple form aswell!

Ahh apologies didnt see that bit.

I just lat all mine as they say they didnt know we where a couple despite claiming we both live here, my rent has not been paid since my son was born. So looks like I will have to get a cardboard box and live in it if not eat it. Housing ben have a back log, well my landlord isnt happy.

I hate benefits. I want to do courses and now I cant afford them with all my money cut off.

Thanks girls for all the advice - I've been told I can apply for the sure start grant but would be better to wait until straight after baby is born so going to do that (if I remember and am not too wrapped up in the LO lol)

Dragonfly I really hope you get sorted soon that's awful xxx
