Feeding Alex is becoming a true nightmare. she gets fed 80mls at least every 4 hours. This is a 50/50 mixture of EBM and formula, or just 100% formula.

All of the above is ideal for putting her weight up and the community nurses think shes doing well. She's 7lb 7oz.

However almost once a day she tends to throw up her milk.

Its making me so worried that she wont put on weight which will then lead to the Health Visitor being a twat.

Thing is there's no warning that she's about to do it. She gets burped often enough and we take our time, and afterwards I hold her upright for a while for good measure, but it still comes out! Its not a funny colour or anything, its just whatever has last gone in.

I am truley falling to bits and dont know how to handle it now. I feel like i cant manage.

Shes only pooed once in a week, too. Everyones saying this can be normal in babies that are fed EBM but I'mnot convinced. She doesnt seemto be in pain and i am massaging her.

hey hun, first off big hug :hugs: sounds like you're bending over backwards to do the right thing and you'll get there :)

are you certain its the whole feed she's yacking up or just some/most? is it same time each day? is it the half and half or the 100% formula each time? any patterns you can spot could help you to address it...

have you got a wii fit board? i've heard women on here say they use that to weigh LO to put their mind at ease...

pooing once a week in a breastfed baby is absolutely fine (providing like you say LO isn't in pain) and as long as it seems a normal consistency. the only thing i'm not sure on is as alex is having formula too whether this should mean she's pooing more often but if she doesn't seem uncomfortable in between or struggling when actually pooing then sounds like its ok

are you holding her upright for at least 20 mins after a feed? (i know you said a while but i've heard its best for at least 20 mins).

Also once you lay her down you could make sure her head is slightly propped, e.g. putting folded blanket under head end of her moses basket mattress

Perhaps you could speak with GP and see if baby gaviscon could work (if she's yacking at same time each day you could give her gaviscon for this feed)

Hope some of what i've written helps!!! :hugs:

Hey Sandi,

From Alex's history I think it sounds like reflux. Easy to sort out, go to your GP and if they agree they will give you gaviscone to put in her bottle. Archie was on it at the neonatal unit and 6 weeks after he came home.

Hunny, your doing so well. Its normal when you get your wee baby home to think you can't cope. It takes a good 4 - 6 weeks to settle in and know your wee one inside out. We are all here to help you, that why this forum is a lifesaver.

If you need to chat feel free to PM me at anytime xxx

dont get stressed hun. :hugs: i know its hard.x.x i was the same

ok i had the same problem with my little one being sick at least once a day but when i ask HV she said as long its not after every feed she will be ok. also it could be that she is taking a little too much in for her tiny stomach it will calm down once it stretchs a little.

as for gaining weight i also had the issue where little one lost a far bit of weight to start with when i was breastfeeding but they soon make up for it.

how much weight are they expecting her to gain and how many weeks is she? as she was a prem baby she will be lighter!!

sorry but my HV is a twat as well i was told my little girl was overweight and i needed to replace a bottle of milk with water so she would lose some!!!

Oh hun, I can't send advice as I have no idea, but I can send big HUGS! and say how lucky your little one is to have you as a mummy!

If your worried or not sure then phone the health visitor or the doctor and ask there advice.

More hugs. xx

Oh my god! Ive never heard so much rubbish in all my life!

ruby only has a dirty nappy every few days now too.. shes fine :-)

re the throwing up.. how many ounces is she taking? is she throwing it all up or just a few mouthfuls?
Ruby was doing something similar and my HV said it was just that she was taking too much! they know exactly how much they need but sometimes take too much (this is how they learn what it feels like to be full, and when its time to stop feeding) and when they do take a bit too much then it just comes back up again. Ruby had no other symptoms, wasnt in any discomfort so they ruled out reflux etc based on that.
i would hold off on the gaviscon if you can as it tends to make them constipated a bit, so if you are concerned about her not going enough, its probably not a good idea to add gaviscon to the issue.

As you have had a premmie, it might be reflux. My LO was an extreme premmie and has reflux. She projectile vomits after some feeds, however she is still gaining weight, probably because she is on medication for it.
Might be worth getting it checked out.

My LO only has one dirty nappy a day, which as she is formula fed is ok. Some babies can go days without a dirty nappy and it is not cause for concern. I would not worry.
