I'm 18 weeks pregnant with my second baby, but my 22 month old still nurses to sleep at night and when upset.
My milk is drying up due to pregnancy and my daughter isn't ready to wean and is getting very upset and frustrated that she can't get any milk. Dry nursing is not enough and it's breaking both our hearts.
Is there anything else I can do to keep up my supply until it has to change to colostrum?

Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do, because its your hormones changing that is drying up your milk :(

Eta: your ferrets are adorable btw

I thought that might be the case :( it's so sad.

Thanks, they're little terrors!

Maybe there are some herbs you can take that are safe during pregnancy. I would go to your local health food store and see. You can definitely eat oatmeal and you can drink oat straw tea, I drank it during pregnancy and it helped me to sleep and feel refreshed. It should up your supply as well. Not sure about fenugreek...

I hadn't heard of oat straw tea - definitely going to try that one. Thanks :)

I'm in a similar position to the OP; DS still nurses a couple of times a day and will be devastated if my milk dries up, which it did last pregnancy around this time. I'm under less stress/different stress this time around so I am hoping that supply will hold out a bit longer and give him time to finish his natural weaning.

It's awful isn't it. My DS still nurses in the morning but has now taken to dragging me into the kitchen to get him some cows milk so I'm guessing I'm drying up! He drinks cows milk then bf for whatever he can get... He seems happy enough with that (thankfully).

Care76 mentioned Fenugreek and while I had success with that early on, I don't think it's good for pregnancy. I think I remember reading something somewhere about it causing uterine stimulation.

Yeah, fenugreek is what has worked for me, but is on the no-no list for pregnancy, especially early on. Anyone know about camomile or hibiscus based teas?

Blessed thistle is good, again check if it's ok in pregnancy. Or your dr may be able to prescribe domperidone (if safe in pregnancy)

I don't think its bad per se, I've just never heard that chamomile tea helps any.

Oh, I see. It can help the mother to relax and then produce more milk, but for the reasons here no, I don't think it helps.
