Hey guys,

Congratulations to everyone hoping for a rainbow baby. Its hard not to get worried when youve had a previous loss(es).

Bit of backgropund...I had a early mc last Septmeber and a chemical early September of this year and bled like a normal period. Next month I didnt ovulate at all and had my next period at its usual time but it lasted shorter than normal.

So I then got a +opk on 31st October and 1st of November. I used a IC last line and got a very faint +
This morning used the Ic which again gave a + but getting darker and used a frer which also gave me a BFP. It was light but i dont need to squint to see it and its still obvious.

Now I went to doctors today as its taken me a long time to get here and i dont want to lose the bean. I asked if he could check my progesterone and my levels in general to make sure its all ok as dont want to miscarry. Dr couldnt quite believe I had a positive pregnancy test as my 1st day of last period is 17th October. I asked if he could do tests to make sure my progesterone and things are right/rising and he said theres no such thing as if im pregnant then I just have to sit it out and see what happens :nope:

I dont know what to do.

He said I have to wait to see the nurse and thats anytime from 8wks to 12wks but I could lose the bean by then.

Just wanted help on what I can do as feel Dr has fobbed me off.

most times you wait for a bfp and missed period before taking progesterone, i started mine only after I had a positive, women who take progesterone from ovulation are usually doing fertility treatments. First wait till you get past your period by a day. Then go and ask your regular doctor for blood work. IF you progesterone comes back low you can take it as proof to obgyn

Thanks for your reply hun.

Im just so scared of losing the baby after a chemical. I dont know why he couldnt book me in for blood test and kept telling me to just wait it out now:nope:

I totally understand your worry but for the doctors you are not pregnant unless a blood test says you are, its annoying , hopefully things go well for you this time x

Dr did ask for a urine sample tomorrow so I guess that should hopefully make him believe me but its the bit where he kept telling me that I have to wait for a midwifes appointment and that doesnt happen till 8-12weeks :nope:

Hopefully things do go well for myself, you and the rest of us here.

It sounds like you are in the uk and in my experience some doctors are of the thinking "if you are going to miscarry there's nothing can be done" which is a terrible way to think and wrong! But it does mean they fob you off, unlike in other countries like the USA where they seem to pay attention to pregnancy at a much earlier stage.
Try not to panic Hun and take it easy, just keep pushing it with your doctor, but he is right that you won't see a midwife until about 8 weeks.

Hey hun, yes, im in the UK and the attitude of doctors is terrible isnt it?!
Im worried I wont make it to 8 weeks and feel it may be prevented if only they just check all my levels right now. I dont think im getting much luck with my doctors and dont know of any other options.

Aw I'm sorry hun they can be horrible cant they? I begged for early checks or scans after my MMC last year when I got pregnant again and they just refused, theres such a horrible attitude towards miscarriage in this country.
All I can say is just try and keep the faith hun and keep pushing with your doctor if its really getting you down, and just take it easy xxx

First, congrats on your BFP!!

Dr's in the uk won't do progesterone tests etc unless you have had 3 consecutive mc, it completely sucks, but unfortunately that's what they do.

I looked online at diet to increase my progesterone once I got this BFP. Please note, I DIDN'T TAKE ANY SUPPLEMENTS EXCEPT MY PRENATAL VITAMIN. I'm talking strictly diet, healthy eating, and nothing to excess to give abnormal readings, just to give support. I've had 2 previous mc and in my head I'm sure they were progesterone issues.

Best of luck!!! X

Laughoutloud - I had only one mc before and this time wanted 2 hcg betas to check they were doubling. GP's are unlikely to concede to this, but guess what - nurses are better! Book an appt with the nurse at your surgery (if there is one there?) Explain how nervous you are, worried, uptight, you'd like to have the beta hcg's to calm you nerves. The nurse agreed after giving me the lecture about how it won't stop an mc.

As for progesterone, if you are at all concerned about these levels you can do a lot to increase these yourself. If you aren't deficient in progesterone it will not harm you or your baby to increase them. The above poster mentioned diet, that's totally true. Also, supplements of B6 (taken with B12) are known to increase progesterone, as well as be generally good for a healthy pregnancy. You can take these as part of a vitamin B complex ontop of your prenatal, but best to research the other b vitamins before making a decision.

Finally there is natural USP progesterone cream. This isn't synthetic progesterone, it is bioidentical, it's not sold in this country without prescription, but you personally can have it imported. You can buy through wellsprings, they ship very quickly, it took about 5 days for mine to arrive. Follow the instructions on the packaging.

And finally, if you want your levels checked there are private companies who will check your hormone levels. It *does* cost a couple of hundred pounds...but it is an option.

RE: all of the above, this is just my personal research/experience etc, and obviously i'm not a doctor, but as I also live in the UK and felt like I wasn't offered the support I wanted early on I decided to just take matters into my own hands...my best advice is to do some research yourself. Good luck to you and a h&h 9 months! X

Mumtodogs - im sorry to hear of your losses and wishing you a h&h pregnancy. Its also nice to see youre in second tri from your ticker, gives me hope too :)

Linnypops- sorry to hear of your previous mc and congrats on your bpf. Have you had your blood tests done?

I (finally) have my blood test done for hcg levels on tuesday. Im really nervous as have been using ICs and line isnt getting dark. I have been panicking a lot and rand the hospital (EPU) on Friday and the lady on the phone told me most womens hcg rises at 6 weeks and that its still early. Im hanging on to those words but at the same time I just want someone to be honest you know?

I have looked at my diet and started taking foods which help with progesterone. Ill speak to my doctor about the progesterone cream and vits B. Im taking prenatals too.

I dont know why docs in the UK are not proactive, its unfair.

Laughoutloud - It's good you're getting your betas done. It should tell you a lot...I'm not sure about this 6 weeks business...obviously around 6 weeks you're talking ridiculously high numbers but you should still be able to get an idea of a progressing pregnancy. Bare in mind that urinary concentrations of HCG are not always accurate, some women don't get good results (for whatever reasons) yet their serum levels are still good. I would suggest, as hard as it is (I do really understand) that you try to think positive and wait the blood test results. If you can, get them to do a second set 2 days later. That way you wil get your doubling rate....this is the best indicator of progressing pregnancy early on. The EPU can advise you on this.

Best of luck
Lx
