Please post your second trimester spotting stories!

I tried the second trimester and gestational complications boards but only got one reply, so I thought I'd try here. Two days go, I had some light spotting (without pain). It was brown at first, but then red, so I went to the ER. I haven't had any spotting in this pregnancy before and never had spotting with my three children in any trimester. My miscarriages were early (6-8 weeks) and two were even missed miscarriages with no spotting at all. I had NOT had sex recently or a pelvic exam before the spotting began. In the ER, the ultrasound was ok. Baby looked good. Placenta was anterior and "up and out of the way of the cervix." No signs of bleeding in the uterus, and they didn't do a pelvic exam. The spotting stopped the next morning. An OB friend said I could have bacterial vaginitis and recommended Flagyl. Anyone here have spotting in the second trimester without also spotting in the first trimester?

Hi hun ! I didnt want read and run ! I havent had any bleeding in this pregnancy ... saying that this is the only successful one ive had but again my MCs were all before 8 weeks.
I did however have a very pink tinge in my Discharge (sorry tmi) and after doing urine test after urine test and protein also beign in my urine it was found that i had a UTI as was perscribed antibiotics...
other than that i cant say ive had experience.. it may just be one of those random things tho hun. although if lil one is all good and you are feeling healthy im sure it is nothing to worry about and just to keep an eye on it

I had spotting in the 2nd and 3rd trimester with my first pregnancy and I've had spotting with this pregnancy twice, in 2nd and just recently at the start of 3rd trimester.

The first time I spotted with DS, I'd had no spotting at all in 1st tri, and I woke up one morning with bright red, period like bleeding. I had more red bleeding and this pregnancy it's been brown or pink spotting, with the odd clot.

In my case, the cause of the bleeding is described as "not pregnancy related" in every instance. It seems that in some women, the pregnancy hormones cause womb cells to grow on or around the cervix, and these cells shed their lining just like a period. The amount of blood can depend on the number of cells present, and the cells go away after the birth.

When I had bright red spotting at 32 weeks with DS, they gave me steroids to advance baby's lungs in case I went into preterm labour. I didn't, in fact I went overdue and everything was absolutely fine.

Also, in pregnancy the whole are is vascular, and can be irritated very easily, which is why some women spot after sex.

Each and every time I get spotting, I have to go to maternity triage (and I strongly advise anyone with spotting to phone their MW or maternity triage with a view to being assessed). They always check my cervix is closed and do a swab for infection (as your friend suggested BV) as that can also cause spotting. Did they do a swab when you went to the ER?

Hi! I didn't spot at all through 1st tri, but I had some random bleeding at 16 weeks. I was terrified as it was more than just a little spotting, but not heavy like a period. I immediately went to L&D to be monitored and they couldn't figure out why I was bleeding, but they assured me that I was no longer actively bleeding. It only happened once and I still don't know why it happened. The only thing I could think of was that it was around the time I would have gotten my period if I weren't pregnant. But here I am, 4 days from my due date and LO is still perfectly fine!

i had a random bleed at 13 weeks-proper bleeding like a period......never knew what it was at the hospital but sure as heck frightened me senseless xxx

i had spotting in 2nd and 3rd tris this time round,never with my two boys so maybe a girl thing??lol.. midwife said it could just be cervical/womb erosion and normal. baby is fine so far x

Hi! With my first i had severe bleeding multiple times in my 13th and 14th week. It was bright red and a lot of it. They assumed i had a miscarriage and basically told me not to get my hopes up, it was devastating. I had an ultra sound though and she was fine and i had no explanations for the bleeds. I went on to have a healthy pregnancy and now have a 2 1/2 year old little rascall to show for it! Good luck, sending good vibes your way xoxo

I've bled\spotted a lot this entire pregnancy.
Frist tri somewhere around 6-8 weeks I bled for about 2 weeks (bright red and very light but enough I needed to wear a pad, no clots though) after several ultrasounds I found out I had lost a twin..
I also was told that I had a bacterial infection but didn't need meds it would clear up itself.

Around 13 weeks I bled\spotted again for a few days. No known reason as to why..

Again around 18 weeks again with the spotting.. again never found out why..

Since then I haven't had any spotting..
This bubs has checked out healthy and fine every time. I also have an anterrior placenta (not in the way of cervix)

It's so stressful isn't it!

I had two random bright red bleeds, once at 21 weeks and one at 24 weeks.

I had not had sex or done anything too physical. I do not have any placental problems.

I'm now 35 weeks and have no more bleeds, and baby is growing well.

I think it happens a lot, and there is often no explanation. It does put you in a risk category for pre-term birth, but it doesn't mean much most of the time. I just took it easy after the second bleed, and so far so good.

On the morning of my 22 week appt I woke up no bleeding nothing. Got to my appt went loo and had reddish but more brownish bleeding. Was so freaked out. They did a scan and claimed it must just have been my placenta moving a bit cause no sign of any bleeding. That night I lost really big brown clots and the brown bleeding got worse. Dr told me to take it easy and second I see red blood get to the hosp.

Next morning nothing! Like it never happened! Haven't had any since that one day thank god am I'm 39+1 now.
