Hi ladies

My hips are huge at the moment... either that or its my bum. I was never prone to putting on any weight on that part but I don't know how much bigger my waist is because I can't get my trousers up past my bum! Elsie is 7 weeks now...

Yet, I can't really feel/see any fatty bits its like my hips have stretched and I'm just concerned that they will never go back to the size 16 I was at my smallest and size 18 pre pregnancy :-(

Will they go back to normal size again if I lose weight? Or are some of ladies just doomed to wear elasticated waists for the rest of our lives?

Mine went back to normal after ds1, but ds2 is almost 4 months old already and my hips are still so much wider in spite of losing almost all the pregnancy weight! So many of my clothes no longer fit... Wish I could be more reassuring but I am wondering myself if they will ever go back to their original width!

That's what I thought might happen! Eeek... oh well - my lovely old smaller clothes will just have to stay in the loft that little bit longer or even stay up there! lol! x

Your ligaments and tendons etc are all put under massive strain when pregnant which can take 6-12months for the trauma to pass. It may happen in time :hugs:

I was happy with my weight coming off pretty well after the baby but I still can't get back in my favorite pair of jeans. They won't go over my hips! I had wide hips before baby and now they seem even more wide.
My son is four months.

I got back into my pre pregnancy jeans very suddenly when lo was 4 1/2 months. I couldn't pull them over my butt from about 20 weeks pregnant

My weight/hips took about 9 months to go back to normal after my dd. The way i see it, it takes 9 months of body changes to grow a baby so it will take at least 9 months for the body to go back to normal. I'll c if thats still the case in a few months now i've had baby 2.

Thanks ladies. Its interesting to know. I had problems with my pelvis being really stretchy during pregnancy so I'm hoping that its just going to take time for it to settle again back to what it used to be. I'd just be so upset if I lost loads of weight yet my old smaller trousers still couldn't get above my bum! lol x

Never had this problem before but number 3 has just arrived and my hips are so wide!! My tummy is going down perfectly and my water retention is gone but these big hips don't seem to be going anywhere!!

Mine never went back to pre preg size although I only had one year before gettin pregnant again so given another yr who knows!
It's my muffin top that's getting me down now! My legs are a size 12 but my hips and tummy are huge and I can't get a size 14 jeans buttoned :(
Hopin to lose it soon!

After my son I could not pull my pre-pregnancy jeans up past my thighs until 4 MONTHS after he was born. But it took until 7 months to be able to zip them up. Yesterday, I tried on my pre-pregnancy jean shorts and I could get them on but I had to tuck all the fat in before I could zip them up. I feel really fat and gross. I lost 30 pounds the first 2 weeks after my DD was born but then it stopped. I still need to lost 30 pounds (gained 50 pounds this pregnancy plus the 10 I gained between my 2 miscarried pregnancies) and finding it hard to return to better eating.

But it does make me feel better that I could zip up my pre-pregnancy jeans this soon compared to my son even if I was seriously muffin-topping. As my strength returns I plan on doing more activity and hopefully getting back into shape.
