While tucking into a big tub of Hummus (pre-packaged from Tesco) I idly did a quick search to make sure it was safe during pregnancy. I dont know why it wouldn't be, but I'm the paranoid type. Anyway, turns out theres a bit of a debate about it and some women avoid it completely while pregnant for fear of contracting Listeriosis. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone come across advice regarding Hummus? I need to know so I can finish the tub or put it in my OH's lunch tomorrow!!!!

I love the hummus :D

None of the ingredients in hummus are harmful to you in pregnancy - I think the concern if with any pre-prepared, pre-packaged foods could potentially carry listeriosis &/or other bacteria.

If you are worried you could always make it fresh yourself :winkwink:

Hummus is one of my favorite foods and I've never heard that it shouldn't be eaten during pregnancy. I agree with Frufru- you can make your own very easily and sometimes I think it's even more delicious that way!

Unfortunately for me, I've gotten indigestion every time I eat it since I got pregnant so I don't think my LO likes it much!!!

It says in the pregnancy books that houmous is great to eat as its full of protein! i eat it. i wouldnt let it hang around too long in the fridge though as it goes off really quick.
