The nickname thing is a bit of a pain, I agree.

My name is Vanessa and I've always loved it, but at school people really tried to call me Van, Ness, Nessie... Which I hated. However, because I refused to respond to any nicknames eventually they gave up and I am only ever Vanessa. So it might not go the way you think.

Having said that, I did deliberately pick names for my boys that can't be shortened. Think they can't be anyway

I have unfair bias towards the name Imogen, so I voted Heidi

Imogen is obviously the best name though, as for the nicknames there are so many for Imogen, ours is Midge (also Imogey, Image, Midget Gen, and a variety if other random cutesy things that just come out)
