Hi ladies I am just 5ft and I was size 20 after having my son but now a size 16. I had my son 7 and a half months ago and I am 4 months pregnant with number 2. I have polycystic ovary and I have gestational diabetes with this pregnancy and my last one. I have been very sick with this pregnancy :-( and it doesn't help I have gestational diabetes :-( they blame me for being overweight :-/

Hi ladies,
I'm 30 years old and 5ft 5in. I was 13st 8lb at booking in appointment for this baby, I'm 29 weeks pregnant with baby number 2.
I now weigh 15st2lb which puts my bmi over 35 but they haven't realised that yet. Not sure what they'll say when they do!

Welcome to the group ladies its soo annoying thay they blame any problems on being overweight i feel like saying can u guarantee me this wouldnt be a factor if i wasnt overweight??? Im sure that would shut them up

Hi ladies, I'm further on than most of you, second pregnancy. Previous had a high BMI too. BMI is very high. So far I have had two consultant appointments with one growth scan so far and gtt which I passed. This time around though I've refused anaesthetist appointment as last time I found it unnecessary and annoying as he wanted me to have an epidural as soon as I was in labour whereas I didn't want an epidural at all. So I ignored his advice and didn't have the epidural. This time I am more determined not to let them just assume things because of my weight. I had a perfectly healthy pregnancy and delivery with my first and everything so far is going well.
To my consultant's absolute horror, I'm planning a home birth. She was vile and told me no and said I wasn't allowed. So I informed her she couldn't say that to me and it's not for her to allow, she can advise, but I don't need permission. It was actually really upsetting and I ended up seeing the head of midwives to talk about my plans. She confirmed consultant shouldn't have used those words and was really supportive of birthing at home.

Sorry I've gone on a bit. Please feel free to ask me any questions, hopefully being further on in my journey will help you all. :)

You don't have to tell them or agree to be weighed so it needn't be a problem x

They weighed me during my first pregnancy (the day before ny due date) and made such a fuss that I spent the rest of the day in tears. They then point blank refused my home birth because of my weight.

Then this time, I'd definitely refuse. You dont have to be reweighed. My BMI is high 40's, they are now supporting me. It makes me so angry when they do things like this. The language they use "allow" "refuse" is unacceptable. Their job is to advise and support your informed decision.

thanks for that bunny that really helpful I found last time that the anaesthetist appointment was a waste of time and didn't want it this time but when I asked if I had to I was told yes its in my best interest. how did you go about refusing it? its mainly this and an appointment to try on some socks that I see as being pointless

I didn't argue with the consultant at the time that she arranged the booking, I let her make the appointment and then when the appointment came through I phoned up to cancel. The receptionist was a bit arsey. She said I needed to make an appointment, that it was important I saw the anaesthetist and that I must go. I informed her that I didn't have to do anything that I didn't want to and I shan't be attending! When it came up at my last appointment when they mentioned the anaesthetist I told them that I had cancelled the appointment and when they asked why I said that I had the appointment last pregnancy, they will have that report in my file if they want to read it but I don't feel it's necessary to go to it again. They offered to send me to a different anaesthetist, but I said no, there was nothing against him, he was lovely and doing his job but I didn't agree with his advice last time and so I wasn't going.

It was difficult to start with as I've gone from having my first pregnancy where I thought that you pretty much had to go along with everything they said, to this time knowing that's not the case and just needed the confidence, which I now have. I'm not letting them make assumptions just because I'm a fatty!!!

I am shattered!! I literally could lie down and sleep all day long, unfortunately my toddler doesn't really understand so I'm trying to power through! Lol!

I can't believe I'm 31 weeks today! It has gone so fast!

How is everyone else doing?

Hey ladies had my 20 week scan two weeks ago and sonographer was horrid. She was obviously in a rush and kept moaning about not seeing certain angles. Then turned and said to me " as your bmi is so high Im having real trouble seeing baby!" I could literally have cried....its only 35....yeh i know still high but i was devestated. OH responded "are u kiddin its crystal clear from where im sitting!"... just horrid overall. Then she gave up and told me to book again for another 2 weeks...so fingers crossed this friday I get someone else.

Hope you ladies are all well!?
X

Hi ladies, in the same boat. I weight the same as at the start of first pregnancy which was trouble free (apart from spd) and natural drug free birth ( which seems to shock all drs and midwifes!!!)

My weight never seemed to be an issue last time, but at my 12 wk scan the sonographer said she couldn't check baby properly or do the nt measurement! Feel terrible :( I don't think she was trying hard enough to be honest!

Very inspiring some of your stories, like to think I'll feel confident enough not to go to anaesthetist appt.

Hi Ladies, I weight a little less this time round than I did last time (Like baby_dust, trouble free, drug free birth) however they still treat me like things will go wrong etc.

The scan was less clear this time due to left over tummy from my daughter despite weighing less.

Jay, I had the same problem last time, it was written all over my paperwork, and I had to have a scan at 22 weeks because they couldn't get the full heart checks done at 20 weeks. I was told baby was laid awkward under placenta and belly button, but then it was just recorded as weight :(
