Hey all...

I'm just dangerously thinking ahead as I do... I'm a uk size 16 and been thinking about how not being flat tummied may affect my first scan - I have visions of the sonographer literally putting all their weight on me to be able to see baby - a far cry from the perfect moment I'm hoping for!! Any ladies similar size had scan and it not been like I imagine?

Xx

im larger than you 18-20 im worried about this too my first scan is on the 11 april,, my cousin who was a size 28 had a normal scan and they didnt push down,,,..
i cant wait to get a bump too!

hi im a uk 16 and i have had 6 scans with previous 2 pregnancies and as long as your bladder is full u will be perfectly fine and they were all joyus moments xxxxx

I am a size 18+ and I have never had any problems with scans in the past. I did have an internal one at 8 weeks but purely cos bubs was so tiny the usual tummy scan wouldnt show up very well. Just relax hun and enjoy that first scan :) x

Oh and also remember to make sure your bladder is very full as this helps. x

I am larger than 'average' and i never had any probs with being scanned.

ive had internals but as you said was cause baby was too small to pick up any other way...
cant wait till 11th april! full bladder,,,, hmmm think i will start drinking on my journey to the hospital... (1 hour journey on the train)

Hi hun

Firstly I wouldn't even call yourself 'plus size' - size 16 isn't that big!

Towards the end of last year I dropped down to a UK 16 (although wearing 18s now to accomodate my ever growing bump) and I haven't had anything different to anyone else...

I did have to have a couple of early scans at 6 & 7 weeks and the first they did have to do internally - but that was because of how early I was, not my size - in fact they could only see the yolk sac at that stage, not even the fetal pole or HB.

The 7 week scan they did perfectly fine externally, and we saw the fetal pole and HB :cloud9: and the 12 week scan was fine as well, and we saw our beautiful baby sleeping in there, despite being poked and prodded (which they will do whatever your size)

Also I managed to find the HB using a doppler last weekend (haven't tried before so don't know if I would have been able to then), and I know a lot of people say that's trickier on larger girls.
And I've had a distinct bump since about 10 weeks too...

Good luck with your pregnancy hun, and don't worry about anything because of your size, you'll be just fine x

I'm a US size 16-18 which I believe is a couple sizes larger than you and the only thing we had trouble with was hearing my son's heartbeat on the doppler before 14 weeks however I'm now 10 weeks 4 days w/my next one & heard the heart last night on our doppler! You'll be just fine hun! :)

Oh thanks ladies you are all so good at making me feel better I just panic!! Its a long way off anyway!!

I have my next scan on the 14th April(3 days after my birthday eeeek)...I cant wait and hope we get a good piccy! x

Ah but be careful it's not too full...
On my 12 week scan I was really conscious of it and made sure I drank loads (not a fun bumpy bus ride!) and my bladder was squashing the baby so I had to empty my bladder and they could see the baby much more clearly then...

i've never had any problems, with our daughter i was slightly bigger thank you are and we had scans from 8 weeks, then 11 weeks, then 13 weeks, then 21, 28 and 36 weeks, and finally in labour  and all was wonderful! we have some brilliant pictures and all was fine :D

Yet I had a stupidly full bladder at my 8 week scan yet she told me it wasnt full enough. You should of seen the look I gave her...PMSL! X

I'm gonna get enough stick from the midwife for being overweight...haha just wanted one part to be nice!! When do you see a specialist for being a fatty because my bmi will be high?

I'm a size 18 bottom and 14-16 top and i had no problems at my scan on Thursday. I also found the HB on my doppler at what would have been 11+3. My letter from the hospital quite clearly said i didnt have to have a full bladder aswell so that was good! xx

im more worried about how much weight im going to put on rather than the scan. i was a size 14 when i had my dd and put 4stone on and never was able to get it off im now a 18 and thinking i really am scared of putting much weight on. Anyone else worried?

My BMI is over the average at 33 but the midwife didnt say anything about high risk etc so i assumed it is alright x
