Has anyone got one or similar? What would you say about it?

Im struggling like mad to pick a dog but the kind I love are pointers (german or english short haired), Beagles, Fox hounds, Dobermanns.

Those kinds of dogs HOWEVER im a little worried about the amount of work involved. I only have a small house atm, we do have a garden but that too is pretty small. However im surrounded by fields so that shouldnt be too much of a problem. I really dont want a typical spaniel, german shepard, lab, staffy, terrior...

Im absolutely prepared to put in the work but what I dont want is a dog turning bad because its ina small house etc and when I go back to work I wont be able to check on it at dinner etc. Ill only be part time and shortish days but still the dog may be on its own for a good 6/7 hours once or twice a week depending on my oh.

So any advise would be much appreciated xx

we have had two pointers one english and now we have a german shorthaired boy. they have both been gorgeous dogs, really affectionate. we live in a one bedroom flat, but we do have a garden, and I was a bit concerned about their size but the animal rescue we rehomed them from seemed to think it didn't matter. we've found they dont need a huge amount of exercise, our boy is a couch potato lol. we do leave him every now and then and on the whole he is good but he does have a chewing tendancy :haha:
This is our couch potato :cloud9:

Ohh he's gorgeous!! I've found some just like him that are ready to be homed soon!! I'm so tempted...

The people i used to work for owned and bred german shorthaired pointers. I have to say they are amazing dogs they used to come out in the fields with us when we were working and part of our job was socializing the puppies. They do better with more space i think but im sure as long as they get decent walks they would be fine. They can be very pray driven though thats the only thing i would be careful about the ones i used to take care of were obsessed with finding rats and used to go mad when we were in the hay barn.x

This is a bit old but my parents have had German shorthaired pointers for the past 12 years. we currently have 3 of them and we got my granparents and aunts into them too :) they are cracking dogs and we wouldn't be without ours :)

We have a 5 month old beagle x German short haired pointer. He's very affectionate but I'm struggling with the training at the mo x
