Anyone can tell me pros or cons, or any experiences?

for what purpose?? sorry im confused by what you are asking. :)
if its for making them bigger Id just buy faster flow ones??

I'd just buy the next 'size' up, that way the hole size is controlled. In terms of more holes in the teat, it will allow for faster delivery of the formula. If the flow is too slow, I found that LO fell asleep from the sheer effort of sucking. Too fast tho is a disaster, it's dangerous (and messy!) I wouldn't be messing with the teat you have, try moving up the scale...it does end up expensive tho!

Yes, to make them faster. I have already spent hundreds of dollars trying to find a bottle that will agree with her...only to have to switch formula or something, to having to start the whole process again.

I have to buy new bottles anyways, but they only come in slow flow.

My dad said just poke a bigger hole in them as that's what he did with us.

So far I'm trying to find a reason not to?

LO suddenly isn't finishing her bottle, and she only gets fed 4oz at a time due to reflux...she either gets distracted, or falls asleep, only to wake up again from being hungry because she didn't finish her bottle!

I know she's going to want more milk soon though, so bigger bottles, but like I said... They only come in slow flow.

What if instead of poking an extra hole in it, I simply took like say the prong of a fork and slightly widen it?

Im sure you could try it with a sterilised needle or something but i think the teat might be more likely to split. You also probably wont be able to control the flow very well so all your teats might not have the same flow rate x

oh thats what i thought you meant. Yeah, i defo wouldnt put an extra hole in it, just widen the one thats already there if you cant get faster flow teats (what kind of bottles/teats do you use that only come in slow flow??)

All the bottles sold that I've looked at (dr brown, avent etc) only comes with the slow flow. The medium flow and fast flow teats are sold separately. :growlmad:

i used a fork to widen the current hole.. saved me a fortune, im a cheapskate! lol x

We used Avent, I found the expense of the teat worth it for my own peace of mind. I think we stayed the same from 6 months to 1 year. (Then we stopped bottles, tho apparently you shouldn't use the same tear for more than 4 months...)

I wouldn't if it were me, I'd just pay the extra for the faster nipples that come separately. Like others have mentioned, if you do it yourself, you won't be sure they are all the same flow. Some may be too big a hole so too fast, and some may still be a little too small. If you know the bottle you are going to be using now for sure, I'd just bite the bullet and spend the little extra to get the right kind. But that's just me...

I poked a hole with a needle and had no troubles. It just seemed the obvious answer :haha: I totally didn't see it as a big deal

Eh I'd be a cheapskate too and use something sterile to carefully widen it myself. Shoot me now lol.

How about buying variflow teats? They suitable for all ages. However personally I wouldn't of give them my LO when he was younger but that's cause he's got a really powerful suck haha and I think it got confused. There fine now for him tho

I wouldn't do it again! I did it when Ava was on a thicker formula (my HV recommended I do it) and it just ruined the teats. I then had to go out and buy a load more! :/

I use medium flow nipples and my son was frantically grabbing at the bottle. So I widened the opening with a knife by cutting a "+" where the hole was, and now he eats and is relaxed the whole time. He was mad it wasn't coming fast enough. I don't think it's a big deal to modify a nipple. Saves a couple bucks too. But I BF except for this 1 bottle per day, and I have an insane letdown like a fire hose, so he was mad that this bottle couldn't do that. haha

ah right yes they are all like that i think. I thought you meant you could get any teats that were medium or fast or varied or whatever. x

I widened the teats with the prong of a fork and it didn't really work... It made the teat weaker and the milk didn't come out much faster. Try Amazon for the size up teats. X

I had to add rice cereal to my babies formula for reflux and I used a toothpick to widen the hole. It works great!
