Poking holes in teats?

Another cheapskate here, I put extra holes in with a needle, worked a treat. xx

I did it when R was on the biggest size but it was still too slow for her. Shoved a fork in it

I tried poking holes in the nipples to make more holes. I also tried a wide needle to widen the current hole and it didn't work. The bottles my daughter uses (Gumdrop wideneck) only come in slow or medium flow. Medium flow wasn't fast enough once she was about 8 months old. I ended up using cuticle scissors (that were new) and cut a small x in the nipple. It worked great and she's been fine ever since.

What scares me that piercing new holes in the teat may cause a weakness in the rubber and part of it may break off when they are sucking/
