Anyone got polish people around them?

I was out shopping the other month next to Hubby's work and these 2 polish dudes were trying to smack a swan over the head with a stick. Didnt think much of it until my boss mentioned that they eat them and that down by the river plenty of remains have been found.

Makes me sick, dont have anything against the odd one but around here they flaunt the law

Disgusting

Rant Over

Wow.

I know quite a few Polish people and they're great. They definitely haven't eaten any swans while I've been around them. How bizarre

Lincoln is a full on Pole Fest!!

Mean I dont know if it is from the ones camping down by the river

Quite a few years ago in Edinburgh there was a big fuss that swans were being killed and the finger of suspicion was pointed at the Polish community. Not sure how much of it was accurate and how much of it was an urban myth.

People often do not know when they go elsewhere what the customs are and if it is something which happens in Poland and is fine, then it is understandable that people may do it here too. I know lots of Polish families from work and I haven't been aware of anyone killing swans! Think it may be the odd one or two people rather than the Polish community as a whole.

I work with and am friends with many Polish people and none of them would ever consider doing something like that. :\

I know quite a few polish peopl and they have NEVER eaten swan even back in Poland
Am I just being fussy here or is anyone else finding this slightly offensive?

It's a pretty stupid generalisation id say yeah :\

Actually yeah, I'm finding it slightly very offensive. Most of my family is Polish-American, moved over here in the early 1900's. We eat kielbasa, but no swans.

Glad it's not just me being over emotional. I get quite defensive as we have some very good friends who are polish and they have had nothing but trouble off people around their area including their business being attacked :growlmad:

Sorry if I'm being stupid,what's kielbasa?x

Its not meant to be offensive its just a general question with it happening around here and what people are saying

As far as I've been told it's smoked pork sausage, could be wrong though or thinking of something else.

ETA - I'm thinking of Kilbanos (sp)

i think its like with a lot of other things, there is always a small minority that give others a bad name. for example a teenage boy in my area was murdered by a couple of polish men and unfortunately this is left people with a pretty bad opinion of polish in general. i dont think it helps when the only time they get mentioned on the news etc is when they do something wrong so thats all people hear about them. hope that makes sense.

I'm leaving this because it's just winding me up now

That makes sense like its the same with chavs and other types of groups.

Spose where in a age where no one can ask questions without people getting offended god knows what the future is going to be like

I think (i might be wrong) that it was just the wording of the post that maybe offended people with the '.... mentioned that they eat them' implying all polish, I know it was maybe not meant that way but it can be difficult to understand exactly what someone is trying to say sometimes when it is just words on a screen

but then comments like the one above I highlighted also don't help the situation
