Polish Eating Swans

I'm sure if its been reported they will crack down on it eventually whoever is doing this.
I cant see why anyone would want to eat a swan of all things though :~

We have some lovely polish neighbours and they are really nice. Eating swans is so mean :( x

I've googled it and apparently its a bit tough and stringy and takes lots of slow cooking and gravy to make it taste half decent.

Maybe a pigeon would of been a better option?!

I cant imagine swan tastes nice atall...I think duck tastes foul

Oh and pigeon
Sorry but I just have visions of people running round town trying to catch pigeons for tea now...

I know quite a few polish peopl and they have NEVER eaten swan even back in Poland
Am I just being fussy here or is anyone else finding this slightly offensive?

I thought I'd state my opinion for what its worth :haha: I think the OP worded what she wanted to say in an offensive way, the Polish around here are lovely people who cause no harm HOWEVER even if it is a normal thing to do eating swan in Poland it's illegal here so they shouldn't be doing it anyway regardless of culture. Some people eat dogs and horses but that isn't 'allowed' over here so people don't try it (well not that I have heard of :haha:)

Its just one of those things i guess, i dont know much about it but if it is a part of their tradition then so be it, other countries eat dogs, cats. horses etc, we'd sit here and go YUCK  yet to them they know no different and its normal
It's not normal in this country, sorry - it's illegal to harm swans (plus MANY other wild animals). I don't care where they were from btw but to say "so be it"? Err NO - these people have no right to eat our swans!

I have a copy of the original "The Joy of Cooking" book, and it has recipes for swan, opossum, raccoon, armadillo, all sorts of things. No thanks! lol

I gather that it's quite common for people in other areas to eat goose? That would be considered very strange here. :)

Yeah people here eat goose.Not me,because I'm a vegetarian so I think eating any animal,swan,goose,duck whatever,is all just as bad ;) x

Oh give over, i live in "this country" too :dohh:

I didnt say it was ok for them to eat our swans, you can tell from the context of my post itself and the references made that i was referring to the act of eating a swan itself, not whether its legally acceptable.

Please dont try to pick my post apart into something that its not

I dont believe Swans are classed as 'game birds' though. They are not bred to be eaten in any country. It would be like killing a peregrine falcon or hawk or any other protected bird for that matter.

Seriously but LOL that this has turned into a debate.

It is illegal to kill swans in this country. It's also illegal to do class A drugs, steal, murder. But people still do those things... I'm not saying it's right to any of those things but hopefully anyone killing a swan will get caught and punished just like someone caught thieving or whatever

I think they would taste fowl. Get it? OMG I'm gonna leave now before I make any more bad puns. I apologize for that one. :)

Has anyone actually eaten a swan? I am curious as to what it tastes like.... Maybe for Caitlyn's birthday BBQ I could do some kind of marinated swan, Holly?

I don't really care, I'd love to be able to say I can't remember the last time I saw a swan, but I can, and it tried to EAT ME!

imagine the roast dinner you could make with a swan!!

:coffee:

if i were going to eat a random wild animal it would not be a swan, they are bloody nutters!

Fair enough if they eat them in their country but it is illegal here so hopefully the got in trouble for it

If I went to another country to live and they didn't eat pigs I would still want bacon! (bad example because I don't really eat bacon but you get my drift)

I don't think it's alright for them to kill a swan btw... with a stick anyway
