So everything started on Tuesday morning, I noticed that I was having my bloody show and kind of just knew that labour wouldn't be too far away
On the Monday I had eaten a whole pineapple and gorged myself on a basil and oregano filled pizza - I'm not sure if any of those may have helped or if it was a coincidence though! And on Tuesday afternoon we went for a big walk up and down some hills which was rather sore but I knew that it was pushing the baby further down
So after the walk we came home and pottered around for a bit, I wasn't feeling quite right so I had a shower and relaxed for a bit
Tightenings started at about 8pm but nothing that I hadn't felt before (I'd been in and out of early labour for about 3 weeks) so I called my Mum who is my birthing partner along with my husband to say something was happening but not to get her hopes up. Then I went off to bed where the contractions slowed down and were very far apart so I thought it was just early labour all over again - how wrong I was!
At 10.30pm my waters broke suddenly in bed and everything kicked off from there! We rang the midwife who said to call her when things started to get much more intense but we called her back 15mins later when it was almost unbearable. So she raced over and arrived at the same time as my Mum and my sister (who was going to look after our daughter)
By that stage I was in a lot of pain and only had a mix of frankincense and clary sage on a tissue for a form of pain relief and I'd also started to push during the contractions which felt soooo much better
My sister got my daughter up from her bed so that she could be involved just as I pushed the new baby out into the world
My husband passed our baby up to me and whispered 'it's a boy' one of each!! I just feel so blessed
We've named him Jasper and he was born at 11.40pm on Tuesday 18th of September after 1 hour and 10 mins of labour. He weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and is feeding terrifically! I ended up needing 3 stitches and have a small graze but I can barely feel it just a hint for anyone that ends up needing stitches or has a graze - get a drinking bottle and pour/squirt lukewarm water over it before going for a wee, no more stinging!
Overall I had a wonderful birth! Good luck to all the other pregnant people out there!
