Morning all, hope everyone is doing well...

I posted this some weeks ago but now, at 30 weeks just wondering if there are any new opinions on our chosen name

PERCY

I'm expecting more bad than good. I am always a little apprehensive when people ask about our name choices and feel quite guilty for that really - its not nice to dread someone asking about which name you love! But... some people have some quite negative views but despite this, DH seems to really have grown to love it!

We are on team yellow and for a girl have chosen ADA and am quite confident with that one, even though that seems to get some frowns too!

Either Percy or Ada will join nearly 4 year old Ruby and nearly 3 year old Bess.

Thanks to everyone if you comment, its 'good' to hear peoples views - in this sense very good cos you can't see my worried face at your reactions!!!

I think you should go with your heart. at the end of the day if you are happy then you don;t want to feel doubt. I don't hate Percy but it's not one of my top names either, but that's just me. I really liked Elvis but hubby wasn't having any of it!

I reckon that Percy is about to become much more popular seeing as there is a new film out which is of some really popular kids/teen books about a boy called Percy Jackson!

personally its not my taste, but if you like it then who cares what other people think :D!..
i like more modern / unique names :) xx

It's definitely not my taste at all, but like someone else has said if you like it then go for it hunny, it's your baby xxxxx

I like it but then all that matters is that you and DH like it. It's a good solid name that will age with him not stick at 10 iykwim

I adore Percy, but the full name Percival with Percy as a nickname. I think its a very classic name.

I love it. And Ada is dear, as well. We have both a Percy and an Adelaide in our family, so perhaps I'm partial....and then there's that "damned, elusive Scarlet Pimpernel!"--Sir Percival Blakeney--that I filled my head with as a young girl!

i think it's lovely, really cute for a baba, but will stand well for an adult too!

I love it, not even a name id think to consider but definatley a gorgeous name!!

I'll be honest when Istarted reading this thread my first reaction was OMG Percy?!?!?! WHY??? but while i have been reading afew of the replies I've been repeating the name in my head and actually think its quite cute!!!

Love Ada, thats a beautiful name xxx

I will have the same for the name we have picked too, no one will get it at all and will be up for some stick, but we have decided we dont care and not even really telling anyone til after the birth coz its more difficult for ppl to scoff then! xx

If I was introduced to a child named Percy I don't think I'd think about it twice - it's a traditional name. I might wonder if he'd been called after his granddad or something but not in a negative way.

It's not a name I would choose but I agree that you should go with your instincts. You might bring the name back into fashion.

Ada I do like though - I like short names.

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments! They're WONDERFUL to hear...

I think Percy is adorable! Ada is really pretty too! They are great choices, you have nothing to worry about :flower: xxx

I think it's fabulous! It fits very well with your other children's names, is very unique, but completely classic. The only 'problem' I can think of with it, is that in my my mind it maybe doesn't 'suit' a teenager. But, by the time he reached his teens, he would be established as "Percy", so I can't see it being an issue (if you know what I mean?)...

Ada is beautiful too.

All in all, brilliant choices!

I replied last time but thought I'd repeat myself, I absolutely love Percy but I'm biased as it's Noah's nickname (I don't even know why lol!) and we call him it 99% of the time!

I really like Ada.
Percy, I'm not completely sold on though. I agree that it's very cute. I can see a cute little baby called Percy, and I an see an old man called Percy. I'm struggling with an older child or teenager though.
Kids can be so mean, and I would worry about teasing.

As someone else said though, by the time he got to an age where a name may come up for teasing, his friends will be quite used to it.

Thanks again to all! Freyasmum and Hayley, you could have taken the words right out of my mouth!

My reassurance with the teenage years is that we have a surname that can be used as a 'teenage/college/uni' years name - my husbands is known as this at work, so I think by the time secondary school approaches, this may have taken over or as you say, Percy be established by then.

I think I'm convinced, I think I always was but its always nice to have reassurance or negative comments that make you more stubborn I find, don't you!!!
