What exactly should I be expecting? Do they do anything nasty like an internal?? Or is it just them asking me how I feel etc? I really have no clue!

Well for me it was just a case of asking how I was, both physically and emotionally...as I said I was "all fine" down there, they don't feel the need to poke about, which I was relieved about!
-Then it was discussing contraception....So no, no nasty internals unless you feel you have anything that needs checking.

I know she'll be doing a pap test... That's what she told me. So I'll be getting the nasty speculum exam.

Yup, like Jess. Thats what happened at my appointment (not fun >.<) and got my prescription for birth control. Thats about it. :hugs:

You shouldn't get an internal and def not a smear as the results can be inconclusive before 12 weeks after giving birth. The most they should do is feel your belly to see if your womb has shrunk properly.

What's a pap test (sorry to sound stupid )?

A pap test is done to screen for cervical cancer. They take a sample of cells on your cervix. In Canada they recommend you do it once every year.

Ahh I get it.. does it just check for cancer? Or do they check other things as well? Anyone know how likely they are to routinely do one of these in south east England as part of a postnatal checkup??

Tash I think its unlikely you would get a smear test done as part of your post natal check as in the UK now, under most PCT's they don't let you have one until 12 weeks post partum. Before then the results of a smear test can be inaccurate.
-But they may book an appointment for you to have one in a few weeks time if yours is now overdue.

Since I had a section, I had my first post-natal check at 2 weeks. I have another one at 6 weeks. My doctor told me that she will also be doing a pap and deciding what contraception I want. Not looking forward to that appt, but after being pregnant, I became a bit less modest with my doctor.

Good luck!

If it's overdue? I don't think I've ever had one...! How often are you suppposed to have one done then?

Thanks for the info Rachie :)

You are supposed to have them once every 3 years once you have become sexually active or once you are over 19 (I think its 19)whichever came first.
