My daughter is 3 yrs, 1 month, and she is still not potty trained. We've tried at various ages: 18 months, 2, 2 1/2, still nothing. We've tried pull-ups and she basically treats them like they're diapers. This is going on the 3rd week where we have her in panties and pull-ups only at nap and bedtime.
She actually only has 1-2 accidents a day, but she won't go in the potty. It's like she holds it until naptime or bed and then lets it fly. I'm pretty sure she is ready as she can hold it so long, she can pull her pants up and down, and she lets us know when she's gone.
I think she's just stubborn. We have several small potty chairs and a potty seat to put on the big potty. We've tried stickers and other incentives. She knows she'll get a sticker and a sucker if she pees on the potty. She actually can parrot after me, "Pee in the potty, not in your panties."
She's gone a few times, but usually for other people. When she's in panties, I have her sit on the potty every half hour for several minutes. Sometimes, if she's full to bursting, she has an accidents not five minutes after she's sat on the potty.
We do have a 3 month old infant, which I know sometimes puts a wrench into things, but she's not really bothered by him, doesn't seem jealous or anything.
It's rough, now that she's three, everyone expects her to be potty-trained, and I really want her to be done by fall so she can go to school and dance classes. My mom says not to worry about it, that she'll potty-train herself when she's ready, but that could take forever. My niece was 4 and almost in pre-school!
It feels like everyone else's kid is potty-trained by now! Sorry for the novel.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried getting any books about potty training? My LO really loved Princess Polly's Potty and wanted to start training as soon as we read it together.

Also - does she have any cousins or friends of a similar age who are trained? My LO has a cousin 6 months older that she idolises, so wanting to be "like A" really motivated her to do it.

I can defiinitely understand the frustration! It took FOREVER to potty train DS1. We started working on it shortly after he turned 2, and he wasn't fully day time trained until a few months after turning 3. he still wears pull ups overnight, though, as he hasn't gotten to the point of being able to wake himself to go potty.

here are some things we tried that may work better for you than they did for us. Every kid is different with what incentive works:

m & ms for going potty
Coins for piggy bank for going potty
A much wanted toy as a reward for going potty x number of times.
Sticker chart
Picking out his own big boy undies to wear once potty trained
pet fish as a reward for potty training. This was the one that worked for us. He really wanted a pet fish, we took him to the pet store and looked at them, teh tanks, etc and told him as soon as he decided to start going potty all the time, he could get a fish. He started going on the potty from then on, with only a few accidents here and there.

Good luck!

Neither of those things worked for us when we were working on it:dohh:
My son was soooo stubborn. his best buddy was potty trained before him, so i kept pointing it out hoping he'd want to go potty like his friend, and he did NOT care. He loved his potty training books to read, but didn't care to actually do it.

ETA: they are certainly worth trying though, as I said before you never know what will work!

Thanks for the suggestions ladies!

We have a couple books about potty-training. She likes them but doesn't connect them to herself. :haha: Kind of like she takes her dolls potty. :dohh:
She has gone a time or two for her older cousin and for her godsister. I keep threatening my friend that I'm going to borrow her daughter some weekend for this purpose.
Hmm, I need to find something she really wants . . . Maybe a trip to ToysRUs or a pet store is in order.

Thanks again. :hugs:

We arent quite there yet but im heading the same way, my dd loves the potty books but wont pee in the potty to save her life! She seems unbothered by soiling herself in panties (we tried this weekend) and like you i could finally bribe her onto that potty every 30mins only to have her pee next to it 5 mins later..
