So my DD, due to be 4 in April goes to the toilet fine for No.1's but just does not get any signal for number 2's, nor does she tell me once she has done them, I have to sniff her out.

I have tried her just with knickers, knicker-less, pull ups etc but nothing makes a difference. She just seems too preoccupied with everything around her to acknowledge she needs to go.

Has anyone else come across this?

I have tried to increase her time sitting on the toilet in the bathroom, to try and wait for poo to come out but she just doesn't get the signal like she does for a wee. She is also getting quite sore now. She also tends to do 3-4 in one day, then a day or so with nothing. Might be part of the problem. I'm not sure if it's time and perseverance or if I need to go the the GP.

Can you tell if she needs to go by watching her? Ours was really, really resistant to poos at first, to the point where she would intentionally hold them for days rather than use the toilet. The key was just being able to notice when she obviously needed to go and then I'd take her to use the toilet and sit there with her until she did (30-40 minutes sometimes). I don't know when she finally started to say she needed to go on her own (maybe after about 2 months of that), but I think it helped that I could tell and tell her, and I imagine she finally worked it out from that. If you keep your eye on her, are you able to catch her before she goes and get her to the toilet?

Have you talked to her about what causes the rash? She might not get the cause and effect and knowing that cause and effect, may be a motivator for her. I think as part of whatever strategy you use, it can be helpful to talk to her about how poop causes rashes and let her know what she needs to do in order to avoid the rash. I know this helped Violet learn hygiene skills.
