Its a long way off for us yet, but I was thinking of getting madam a potty just to sit on, to get here accustomed to the idea, particularly as she almost always wees after having a bare bum for 5 mins, but then I saw all the potty seats that fit on a regular toilet and it got me wondering ...

Do you have to start with a 'potty' or is on the loo ok?
Is the benefit of a potty they can take themselves (but I guess she can take herself to the loo?)
Is it that she can be in control, get up and off by herself, not need me holding her?

I think it depends when you are planning to toilet train really. I used a potty with Thomas and it was fantastic for the first month or so. He was just much happier sitting on the potty at the start than on a toilet seat. I think it gives them a bit more security that their feet are on the ground and they can get on and off themselves. Also in the early days of training, it is easier to have the potty in the room you are playing in because there is often quite a short window to get them to the toilet. (depends how far away your bathroom is too I guess). Now, at 27 months, Thomas uses the toilet seat the vast majority of the time but he is still not able to get on and off the toilet by himself even with a step.

I have a potty for my dd but find it difficult to get her to pee on it rather than right after she gets off. she is 18 mos.

We have both and Madi uses both still. She suffers with bad constipation and going on the potty for a poo is more comfortable for her. She always wees on the toilet though. I also dont have a upstairs toilet so the potty goes in her room at night time.

:-D

my lo is 28months and we haven't actively started potty training yet now and again he will sit on the potty and do a wee or on the toilet but we are having problems finding potties and toilet seats which are small enough, as he is quite small he falls into them. But at the moment he hates having his nappy off cries until I put one back on. So don't think he is ready yet plus we are moving soon so that will unsettle him

Alice uses both, and has done since we started, but I wouldn't be without the potty. For one thing, when she does a poo, she'll sit there for ages until she's done. It's quite nice to be able to just leave her to it, which I wouldn't be able to really if she was on the loo. I think it's actually a better anatomical position for pooing anyway (I'm a great conversationalist at dinner parties...)

I think the potty has given her more independence with training. In the early days, I'd leave her bottom half naked with the potty in the room, and it reminded her to go and sit on it. I think she'd have had far more accidents if she hadn't had that visual reminder.

Hey there

We were going to get her on the toilet seat first but as we are moving i thought that might be a bit of a pain for her with a new loo to get used to!

I bought this today
https://www.mothercare.com/Disney-M..._1_26&nodeId=406797031&sr=1-26&qid=1326319164

She loves it and has already been sitting on it without my intervention with her nappy off this evening.

I will just have it around for a few weeks so she is familiar with it but i defo need to do some reading up!
