Anyone who has had pre-e or hellp syndrome in a pregnancy in the next pregnancy did they keep a closer eye on you? My first pregnancy I had HELLP. So with my 2nd I thought I'd get extra ultrasounds and everything since of my HELLP past. But with my 2nd the only extra things he did was extra blood work here and there and a 24/hr urine once. I didn't have HELLP my 2nd. But I still thought I'd get more then a 10 week and 20 week ultrasound.

I didnt have HELLP, but I had severe pre-e with my first. The second time around, everything was pretty much normal until I was end of 2nd/start of 3rd tri. I was getting an ultrasound to monitor blood flow to the placenta every fortnight, and then every week towards the end. tank to your doc if you are concerned they should be monitoring you more closely x

I asked exactly the same question a couple of weeks ago and this is what was said....

Like another poster I didn't have HELLP, but I did have severe pre-e and my daughter had IUGR, weighing 4 lbs 3 oz at 35 weeks. With my second pregnancy I was refered to a OB at 12 weeks (usually 24 weeks here), I had a few extra standard ultra sounds, plus one that looked and the functionality of the placenta. Extra blood tests were done to rule out a possible autoimmune diseases and I was put on low dose asprin until 34 weeks. Near the end of my pregnancy I had to go for non stress tests twice a week. With my second pregnancy my blood pressure started going up at 33/34 weeks, but thankfully I didn't develop pre-e again.

My girlfriend at work lost her baby to HELLP and they are watching her very, very closely this time. I hope your Doctor is taking your care seriously, if not, I would get another one. I am sensitive to to this as I lost my son to a Doctors mistake so I always caution to be your own as well as your babies advocate...

I had severe pre-eclampsia wiv both my pregnancies. Was emergency induction wiv both. They sat on me in my first pregnancy even tho I had a BP of 178/123 it was only wen I stopped feeling baby move they induced me. Baby was fine weight 7lb 14oz at 38weeks. I had a fit an hour after she was born. Was out cold for 2days. Second time round they watched me very closely I got to 36.5 again with out much problems. I felt funny BP shot to 153/103 not as high as b4. I become twitchy they gave steroid jabs for baby & induction 2days later 37weeks 6lb 15oz. I always hav growth scans from about 30weeks onwards. But I never had small babies anyways lol. GL x

I had sudden pre-e with my first and had her at 30 weeks by emcs. I too am obviously worried about getting it again. I also assumed I'd be considered high risk and monitored much closer, etc. but my Dr said that I'm not really high risk unless my bp starts to go up or there's protein in my urine. Until then, I'm treated like a normal pregnancy. I am on 81mg aspirin a day just to help be preventative. I also got a bp monitor for home to be able to check whenever I want, which is nice because that can help give me peace of mind when I need it.

I had class II HELLP in my first pregnancy, I had it at 40+5 so thankfully quite late and my daughter was healthy.

I saw a specialist a few months later (asked my GP to refer me) who talked me through my case and what to expect if I got pregnant again. She said it usually occurs at around same time or later if it reoccurs at all, and therefore they'd probably induce me or do a section at 39 weeks. I've since learnt from connecting with other survivors that (anecdotally) if you have it late then any reoccurance is likely to be later but if you have it early in pregnancy it seems more likely you'll get it again and earlier. Which makes mother nature a b!##h.

When I conceived a second time I went straight to my GP and got aspirin to take daily throughout pregnancy. I had the same midwife schedule as a first pregnancy (usually you go less second time if all is well). And I saw the high risk doctors about 4 times between 20 and 39 weeks. I had an elective section at 39 weeks and no sign of HELLP or pre-e.

I recommend a group called HELLP SYNDROME SURVIVORS on facebook - I've learnt a lot from that group.

After developing pre-e and HELLP at 27 weeks and delivering at 28+0 I'm considered high risk this time. Saw the consultant every 4 weeks until 20 weeks, now I see him every 2 weeks and have a growth scan each time, will be going to weekly if I get past 30 weeks. I also see the midwife on the week 'off' from the consultant in between. I'm in the UK.
