I had post partum pre e after I had my son. I just came back from my confirmation appointment at my regular doctors office and my bp is already higher than normal so she suggested I called my ob and let him know asap. I'm waiting on the nurse to call me back... what normally happens if you get it in one pregnancy (in my case after delivery).. does it occur again in the next pregnancy?

It doesn't necessarily happen in a pregnancy afterward. I had it with my first child but not with the second.

I was wondering this too - I was hospitalised until I was full term then was induced due to pre-e, then kept in afterwards. I'm hoping it doesn't mean anything this time around because I just HATED being in hospital!

I had it both with my son and daughter ... my bp went up early with my son and rocketed after he was born and my daughter well it went up just before she was born then rocketed after it...am talking 180/120

We have since found a solution ...in both cases once the babies were born I was taken of that crappy labetolol and put onto amlodipine and perindopril.... bp went back to normal within a few hrs .. only problem is that I had to stay on the medicine for at least 4 months

Make a plan with your medical provider ... find out what worked best for u im the past and try it... knowing that you have a plan will help incase u are unlucky. .. and ur medical provider should be prepared at least giving ur history xxx

This is my third baby.. im not letting the fear spoil this pregnancy x

I had post partum pre e with my son.. bp was fine throughout my pregnancy. It had started to creep up a little toward the end but nothing they were concerned it. Hours within having him though I was dizzy and the alarms going off.. they had me on two different bp pills in the hospital and sent me home with a prescription for one I was supposed to take for a year. After a few weeks it stabilized and I stopped taking it (and notified my doctor I had stopped) and it had been fine since. The nurse didn't call me until after hours yesterday afternoon and I didn't get to the phone in time. I tried to call back but of course it went to the recording. Hopefully I will get to talk to her today and see whats going on.

I had PreE and it quickly turned to Ecclampsia and I took a seizure, baby was born at 37&1 by EMCS.
I've been booked into the High Risk Unit this time for Consultant care and more frequent antenatal apts. I'm hoping for a Vbac this time but will depend on how the BP goes...

I finally got ahold of the nurse.. she said that they thought it would be okay to wait and see me on July 3rd when my first ob appointment is. Told me to watch my caffeine and salt...and that was it! Well, alrighty.

Pre-eclampsia usually doesn't show up till 25 weeks (though I had a friend who developed it suddenly at 22-23 weeks), but blood pressure problems can happen if you're prone to it. Pre-eclampsia hit me with my first child at 25 weeks on the dot. Started with protein in my urine, and bp was a little higher (but still not above 120/80) than it had been. Things progressed from there. By the time I was 30 weeks, my BP was being monitored closely and I spilled protein almost every visit. Had my baby at 34.5 weeks.

Having higher blood pressure alone doesn't mean pre-eclampsia, though. I was hypertensive here and there with my second child, but never developed pre-eclampsia.

There's no way to predict that you'll have it this time. Just because you had it last time doesn't mean you'll have it this time. Doctors just can't determine that yet. The best thing to do is to watch your BP--buy a BP kit if you don't have one and monitor it as your pregnancy progresses. Don't freak out--stay calm and don't worry about tomorrow's problems--today has enough of its own.:hugs:
