When I bring my baby home, hopefully in a week or two, I hope to cloth diaper him. Any cloth diaper tips for tiny babies?

I can't really remember, it was so long ago, but we use terry squares, which we have used since he came home at about 4 or 5lbs. These were good because they really do adjust to any size - you may want to move onto the fitted type when LO is a bit bigger? Make sure you get something nice and soft to line them - we bought washable fleece liners, never used the paper inserts, so don't know what they're like. The one thing we found is that his legs were so skinny that we got a lot of leaks from the gaps around his legs and back and we struggled at first to find wraps small enough. But honestly with 'newborns' (well, he was 3 months old :) ) you get so many poop explosions with breast milk poos and stuff, and they need a change approximately every fifteen seconds anyway, lol, we found them not much less convenient than disposables. These problems just evened out as he got a bit of fat on him. It does give them a comically large bum - but I think that's cute! :)

My 34/35-weeker wasn't all that small (5lb15 at birth, 6lb even at discharge), but we started with bummis prefolds and covers. Well, I still use bummis prefolds and covers, but we've gone up two sizes. :) They were the only ones I found that fit babies under 7lbs. I think the pack says 4-9lbs.

This is what I started with:

I forgot to say congrats on your new baby! I know it's scary and hard now, but you will get through it. :hugs:

Tots Bots teenyfits fit from 5lb, and at Natural Baby Shower they're 15% off for real nappy week xx

Oh thanks!

Just to update, I picked up some Charlie Banana XS pockets, they had them for the first time in a brick and mortar big store (Target). I got three pack and registered for a couple more. They are 5-10lbs.

I then ordered about $100 worth of imagine newborn size diapers from Nickisdiapers.com (it's Nicki's brand I believe, great ratings and cheaper). I got 3 AIO's (bamboo), 6 fitteds (bamboo) and 6 covers (I needed a couple covers for the 6 fitteds and then I am going to get some gently used preemie prefolds when I can get a ride to the store).

I plan (as I stated above) to pick up as many preemie sized prefolds they have gently preloved at the green corner store here, up to a dozen. That gives me 12 prefolds, 6 fitteds, 3 AIO, and 12 pockets.

All the imagine stuff fits 5-13 lbs. The Charlie Banana 5-10. I have some infant sized prefolds already when baby grows out of preemie sized.

what size/weight is he leaving at? i just got newborn rather than prem infants when my DD was 5 pounds and besides being slightly bulky once i had a good fold figured it was fine ans lasted longer :)
but it is GOOD to invest in the smaller sizes, i kept saying/thinking oh she'll grow into these fast but she's only just starting to fit newborn sized clothes and so i was wrong about that and wished i had invested in some smaller ones as she's often wearing bigger less effective (because so big!) sizes!

They will move him to a non-incubator at 4lbs 5oz to 4lb 7oz. He has to be good in a regular bed before he can go home, so more than 4lb 5 oz but probably less than 5lb.

definately invest in some prem sizes then! green mountain diapers do great prem prefolds. oooh also itti bitti dlish smallest size fit my girl at 5 pounds on the smallest setting, they are known for running extra small and its true! plus she's still fitting them at nearly 8 pounds. your stash sounds great so far! i'd get some extra prefolds and maybe some flats (promise they're not as scary as you think! have them all prefolded straight out the laundry and it takes about as much time as stuffing pockets!). hainvg a bit extra gives you security for days when you miss laundry or forget ot take into account drying time etc!

also i expected my LO to grow fast but she is still fitting most of her teeny tiny stuff she doesnt wear prem anymore i only had a few prem sized prefolds wish i'd had more so i mostly ended up using flats then but at 8 weeks i can imagine she'll be in newborn another month or two at the rate she's growing. slow and steady! on the othe rhand some babies BOOM! grow but its good to be prepared for both outcomes!

Well he is growing fast! He was 4lbs 2.8 ounces the day before yesterday and 4lbs 4.8oz yesterday! He will be 5lbs before we know it!

I know they have really cheap used prefolds at a store near here, but they have odd hours and since I am still not driving post-c-section...

he will be 5 pounds before you know it! and then 6 pounds and everyone will say oooh he's so tiny and you'll think REALLY? he looks huge to me! hahaha.
he has a beautiful head of hair in your profile pic!

i hope you can get those prefolds, honestly second hand is great most of my stuff is and i didnt have to prep them :D i recomend some basic terry flats or when they're ittybitty i used muslins full time as nappies work great. if you have time look up some folds and try them out with a muslin they're cheap and easy to find :D i do the 'jo fold' and have them all folded straight out the laundry or the origami fold and have them folded ready too. drying time is quick.

good luck :)

I have has three premature babies and have used square terry nappies with all of them, my littlest came home at 4lb and it was just a case of folding properly I'm not sure what the fold is I use ( if it even has a name) but I will look around if you are interested, pre folds are ok but much worse for drying xx
