Is there anyone on here that can please put my mind at rest.. I'm currently 22wks pregnant with my 2nd little boy and under regular consultant care due to having suffered an undetected placental abruption and other complications with my little boy - who's now 3 and luckily completely fine - thank god! :)

This time they are keeping a close eye on bub's growth and scanning me every 4wks as well as a doppler study to monitor the blood flow to the placenta in order to hopefully pick up on anything beforehand.

Yesterday I had a scan and the first doppler study. On the growth charts I was given I can see that my lil bub is on the small side - but my consultant told me not to worry as he is on the chart (altho only around 20th centile). He told me that the blood flow to the placenta is stronger on one side than the other, but not to worry as the stronger side is fine.

However this is all really playing on my mind now and I'm so scared incase it is coming away again...

Please is there anyone out there who is pregnant again following a placental abruption, and who can put my mind at ease?

I couldn't sleep last night as I feel so anxious.

Thanks in advance ladies.

Hi hun, i had a complete placenta abruption in jan, sadly my little boy didnt make it, im now also preg again and it is deff a worry, i take u have probs with ur placenta ? mine was due we reckon to sudden onset of extreme pre-eclampsia, so i cant really help with risks of it happening again etc..
Its good to see that they are keeping a very close eye on u and will hopefully detect anything before it can get to serious if it happens, all i can really suggest is to take each day one at a time and try not to worry unless something actually happens iukwim, am here if u need to chat xx

Thank you so much for replying Marnie.

I'm very sorry to hear that your little one didn't make it...

I thank my stars every day for Joseph - I know he is extremely lucky to be here. I think that's what makes it such a worry this time though too. I had been telling myself that what happened with Joseph was a one-off and that everything we see at the scans and studies would be fine and 'normal' this time. But to hear yesterday that things are not looking perfect has really set my alarm bells ringing and I just don't know how to relax and enjoy it.

Anyway I don't really know why i've posted all that on here... I have also sent you a friend request.

Take care.

PS. If there is anyone else out there with similar experience please do comment or msg me. I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you! :flower:

cheers hunny, think thats the problem now though isnt it cause now we know that there is a risk to them being inside us as well as the usual prem births etc, nothing is garenteed until i have my baby screaming in my arms :-((

hope u can find some one to give u peace of mind and will look for the friend request hun xx

Hi Hun,

I had an undetected placental abruption with my son in sept 08 he spent 6 days in nicu but thankfully is perfect in everyway. When i was pregnant with my daughter i was terrified of the same thing and was suppose to see a consultant (but ended up seeing her registra) i was told the plan was to have scans every 4 weeks up until 34 weeks and then i was told i would have specialist blood flow scans every week and have a csection at 38. Then at 28 weeks they suddenly decided that i wasnt having anymore scans until 38 weeks and would not have a csection or early induction ( originally id wanted a natural birth but was told this wasnt possible as i couldnt go past term!) I was so angry as i felt like they had changed this at the last minute i put in a complaint and demanded to speak with the consultant and ended up in tears and then she decided to do the scans as originally planned but would not induce or c-section!

Everything was fine at my 36 week scan but then on my 37 week scan it showed that the placenta was failing again so my daughter was born by c-section. The consultant was brilliant in the end but i had to fight to get what i wanted and im glad i did as otherwise i fear i would have the same problem as before. My daughter was born a very healthy 8lb 13oz at 37 weeks my advise would be to make sure your getting regular scans and if they refuse tell them your having reduced movements that way they have to do a long list of checks (they wont scan you more than once a week )but if anything looks even slightly odd on the trace they will not risk it.

If you want to know anything else or just want to chat feel free to pm me i found the last few weeks so scary but my daughter c-section was totally different to my sons!!

Good luck

Ruth

Hi,

Thank you so much for replying with your experience... Did they give you any reasons for the changes to your care plan?? I would have been fuming too!

In all honestly they have been brilliant this time so far (i think mainly beacause the f***ed up so badly last time and once i felt well enough i kicked up a real stink of a complaint). They treat me like royalty at the hopsital now! I've been scanned every 4wks since 16wks n had the first doppler study to monitor the blood flow last week (this was my cause for concern and my reason for this thread) I have a section scheduled for 39wks and so I don't think that they will make any changes to the care plan... But it does seem strange that they did for you... Why did they do that??

What was it that showed up on your daughters scan with the placenta btw? Was it a restricted blood flow, or something else? Thats what he mentioned to me this time 'restricted flow on the right side' and it mentions 'notching' on my notes - thats what has me worried so much at the moment..

Thanks again for sharing your experience hun!

Will send you a FR too!

Hi,

They didnt give me a reason other than they didnt think it was necessary. The scan showed calsification (sp?) on the right side of the placenta was caught early though so didnt cause any problems but after the consultant saw it she apologised for changing the plan and said it was a good job we had picked it up!!

xx
