Hi

I was wondering , was off sick for 15 days due to preganncy related illnes and the Company i work for added those 15 days to my normal sick record ( lets say 7 days ) so my sick record looks like high

Should that be kept separately and will my sick record affect maternity pay ?

i have been working for this company nearly 2 years.

thank you

This confuses me, I know it's not supposed to count towards you at all, it isn't classed as normal sickness. However, my employer, a big university that does everything by the book, uses iTrent HR electronic system when I logged in I saw that my manager logged in pregnancy related absences I had but under reason in the drop down list selected "pregnancy related" so I'm assuming it can't be used against me at all, although I am confused as to why it is recorded at all, but I'm not worried about my record and was only one day so left it.

If when recording it they are listing it as pregnancy related I wouldn't worry too much, if they aren't I would say something. If they ever try to discipline you for your sickness record they can't bring in your pregnancy at all.

my company uses the bradford factor to work out sickness, and its based on number of days off x occasions x occasions i think, anyhoo, with my previous miscarriage, they included this sickness in the calculation which triggered a hearing. i had 3 weeks off which was pregnancy related, prior to that were 2 odd days, i argued that it was insenstive to put me through a hearing but it still went ahead and no action was taken due to mitigating circumstances.

being off sick pregnancy related should not affect your mat pay, however if they pay you smp, on top of the standard government payment they take an average of your income over a period of time, and if during this time youve been off sick and unpaid then it can affect your mat leave average

also bear in mind that they cannot discriminate the pregnancy sickness and use it against you for displicinary but that does not mean you are entitled to be paid sick for it, ie if you were off sick for the same amount of tim with a non pregnancy related condidiont and would not normally have earnt sick pay then you are not entitled to sick pay because its pregnancy related.

there was loads of info on the yougov website

but im not sure where you live so this is how uk works

at the end of the pregnancy after a certain amount of time they can request that you start your mat leave early if you are off sick
