This is my fourth pregnancy, though I was only a teenager when I had my three girls previously. I am suffering the worst pain in my bum/hip area the Dr has said that it is more than likely sciatica just not fully as the pain is not going down through my legs. I have been to see a Physiotherapist twice and she has givien me excersises to do daily and suggested for me to go to Pilates groups, but I am not a big person for excersising in public with other people around me. Has anyone got any suggestions of what can be done whilst pregnant? I can barley walk and this causes a struggle as I work a full time job :-(

Ahh so sorry to here this :( I've going to see a psyiotherapist this week about mine even though I know they will just give me excersises. Not alot I can advise but just watch how you walk and sit, when I'm at work I have to make sure I sit properly and make sure I walk round alot aswell so it doesn't come on. Streching it out and warm baths all I can suggest. I have been using a pillow at night to help me and its actually helped alot!!

Swimming helps me, and doing some stretching while I'm in the water. Getting in the water a few times a week kind of keeps it at bay for me so far.

I used to do yoga before I got pregnant, and that was great! Unfortunately now, I'm just too lazy, and most of the poses I like are not recommended for pregnancy anyway.

Things like Pilates or yoga though, I would definitely go to a class if I hadn't done them before; that way the instructor can make sure you're doing the exercises properly and not hurting yourself or the baby.

I am having the same problem. And I work 12 hour shifts on my feet. During my shift, I try to take frequent rests in a chair with good back support. Bending over without bending my knees seems to aggravate mine a little, so maintaining proper body mechanics may help (yoga probably does this too).

Other than that, I'm not sure as I am still wrestling with it.

I had sciatica pain early on. One night I was in bed and I literally didn't think I could get back out. The only thing that worked for me was a heating pad.

I second the swimming! I had a ton of pain in my lower back, legs, hips and tailbone. I went to the chiropractor a couple times and she suggested swimming. I started takig a water aerobics class (I am also NOT one for public or class exercise) and it is a world of difference. Plus, most of the women in the water aerobics class are much older (grandmothers) making it easy to show up looking like a chubby pregnant girl stuffed into a swimsuit, because they just love a pregnant belly lol :)

Massage therapy, rest and ice!!! I'm a massage therapist and in my last pregnancy massage is what got me through because there were some days I literally felt like I couldn't walk!

I had sciatica pre pregnancy for 9 years, since becoming pregnant, ive developed SPD and Im only 13 weeks! My Dr has prescribed codeine to me! I take it when the pains unbearable xx
