Pregnant with baby no 2, due 25th May 2012 - when is the best time 2 tell ur 1st

Im pregnant with my 2nd baby due 25th May 2012. Me and my OH have been discussing when to tell my three year old daughter. I wanted to tell/take her to the first scan, but somebody said is that a wise idea?
What are your opinions ladies?

I have a 3 and 5 year old, brought them to my 16 weeks ultrasound. If you do not have a history of miscarriage I would tell her now if you do I would wait after 15 weeks. But that is just a personnal decision.

I'm waiting til i've passed the first tri to tell my 6yr old. I had a m/c at 10weeks last year and was sooo glad my little boy didn't know anything about it. Also, the chances are you will be fine, but some ladies do go to their 12 week scan and find the foetus had died some weeks before. I know what you mean though, I would love to take my little one to my scans but I'm going to settle for letting him listen to the heartbeat on the doppler, when I finally tell him.
Please don't think I'm trying to scare you, you'll prob be fine, but just be aware of the risks. H&H pregnancy xx

I don't think I would take them to a first scan - just in case. Our daughter is 7 and we waited to tell her after we had went to the first scan and saw baby alive and well. That was at about 8 weeks - and some would consider that early, but we haven't had any previous problems with miscarriage or TTC so we figured it would be ok. We plan on taking her to the second scan though where they let us know what sex the baby will be. She's old enough to kind of understand what's going on and be very excited with us about it. It will be awhile before that one but she's already very excited about going with us for that one!

thanks all, its such a hard decision. She has been my life for the last 3 years, and wont her involved in every possible way. I have never had a MC, touch wood. But, its just such a hard decision to make

My friend is 7 weeks pg with her 2nd, her little girl is 4, she is having trouble trying to decide when to tell her too, but wants to wait because she thinks 7 months is a really long time for her dd to have to wait.

She is also waiting because she doesnt want her dd telling her ex yet.

I know what you mean. I wanted to tell DD right away but DH convinced me to wait until the first scan and after thinking about it he was really right. It wouldn't be fair to get her hopes up and have something go wrong - I'd feel horrible. So I'm glad we waited. It's hard to keep it a secret, especially from your own!

im in the same boat.. have a 5 yr old, due may 29th and think I'm going to wait until after my 3 month scan..also don't want her telling my ex yet too! lol

i dont know whether to take her to the scan and tell her when we are there, or not depending on the outcome. My sister is 7 months pregnant, and she is so exicted having a little cousin. But I agree 7 mths is a very long time for her to weight. I also dont want anybody else telling her, as i cant wait to tell her. but think we might wait till 20 weeks.
sadly my little one is use to me being big, I had 4st 1lb in the last 7months to have a baby, so not sure u would understand.
