Hi, does anyone premix formula in bottles and keep it in the fridge. I know the tins say not to but Im finding it difficult making it up on demand with lo screaming for a feed. His very unpredictable with times. Thanks x

i did, i never left them for longer than 24 hours though

I make up 5 or 6 in the morning to last the day, and keep them in the fridge until needed.

Me too. I make up 6 in the morning to see us through the day. I never leave them more than 24 hours though. xx

me 2. I do them in the morning and dont leave them longer than 24 hours. She takes 6oz. I put 3 oz water and 6 scoops in fridge. Then when she is ready i boil kettle. add 3 more oz and the bottle is perfect temp

I premake mine for the night. only needs a bottles, dont keep it in the fridge so that its room temp when he wakes up. I wouldnt leave it longer than 12 hrs out of fridge, 24 in fridge or even a couple of days if its a carton and im using it for cooking! What is the reason your not supposed to premake them?

I pre-make all his bottles for 24 hours in an evening. I pop them all into the fridge bar one that goes into the chiller in our room. He drinks his milk at room temp so literally 1 min in the bottle warmer and it's up to temp and drinkable for overnight. If it's before midnight that he wakes I'll nip downstairs and grab another bottle and pop that in the chiller in case he wakes again. This lasts me a full day through to his teatime bottle at 5pm and I make them up about now.....speaking of which lol.

Thanks all, it's all very confusing, the tin I have (amtamil) says it has to be made and used straight away, as it can start creating bacteria in the bottle, is this just the makers being over cautious? X

I think so to be honest ... what you have to remember is that the instructions on the box have to comply with World Health Organisation guidelines - which basically allows for the fact that formula is sold all over the world, including places where access to fridges is limited or non-existant.

Here in the west we have access to excellent and reliable refridgeration ... your mother's generation always made up bottles in advance with no ill effects

Tattie makes up bottles twice a day .... once in the morning and once mid/late afternoon so they are never stored for longer than 12 - 14 hours and she uses aptamil as well :hugs:

I also make bottles twice a day 3 bottles in the morning and 3 in the late afternoon to make sure they won't stay in the fridge for more than 12 hrs. I make up my bottles as instructed on the tin then put them in the cold water to cool down and then to fridge. I will warm them up as I need. 5 minutes is perfect nappy change time  We are using Cow&Gate.

I do as well although i wont leave them for any longer than 12 hours in the fridge and maybe 1 or 2 hours at room temp as when they are this temp, thats when your bacteria starts to thrive.
I make 3 in the morning, then when ive used the 3rd, ill make another 3. Then again, when the 3rd has gone, ill make another 3.

I've never pre-made in the sense of putting the formula in the bottles before hand because of the risk of bacteria. What I do is pour the right amount of water into bottles first thing in the morning (or just before bed if baby still wakes for feeds in the night) and then let it cool to room temperature and put the formula in as I need the bottles. It's just as convenient and there isn't pre-made milk hanging around. I know the tin says the formula won't mix under a certain temperature, but it will!

I done it this way because I couldn't keep my baby crying while I made them one by one but I'm too much of a worrier to pre-make the milk! The fridge has to be just the right temperature and I just wasn't willing to take the chance incase mine wasn't!

What the others have said :flower: I always make Jacob's bottles up first thing in the morning x
