Prescribed Clomid but I ovulate on own

Hi ladies, Is it odd that my Dr prescribed me Clomid even though I ovulate on my own? From what I have read..most women are prescribed because they don't ovulate. My cycles are always 27 or 28 days and I ovulate on my own each month. Maybe he's just trying to increase our chances with extra eggs? We have our first IUI cycle next week as well. Thoughts?

i am assuming since you are having IUI he is trying to make your chances greater

I also ovulate on my own & wasn't too jazzed about it, either. By my third try on it, I had decided it is most effective for those that don't ovulate and a waste for those that do. I wasn't going to take it a fourth month - just didn't want to stay on meds needlessly.

Well on my third try I added IUI - and it worked! My gut tells me IUI made the real difference, but who knows.

Good luck!

hi mamamirfy - i ovulate on my own as well but am on clomid. was on 100mg this cycle and next cycle 150mg - doc has done this to increase my chances of getting preggo to make it happen as quickly as possible so my endo doesn't rage against me!

Ahhh, thanks for the replies. He only prescribed it for me starting with IUI. I was never prescribed it alone so I'm guessing it's to increase the chances. I do know that I hyper ovulate on my own anyway.....I just hope it doesn't make me release a crazy amount of eggs and than with the IUI end up the next Jon and Kate......

To the best of my understanding, Clomid doesn't just make you ovulate, it improves the quality and maturity of the eggs so you have the best chance. x

Thaks DragonMummy. That's great to know. Quality and maturity are both good!!!

My clinic scanned often and wouldn't proceed on with the IUI if there were more than 4 mature follicles. They didn't want me to be Jon and Kate either. : )

Thanks Vineyard! I see you have twins, did IUI work for you?

I ovulate on my own but Ive been TTC for 30 months and was just prescribed Clomid to help increase my chances - i really hope it works. Im starting it in Sept cos I have a busy few months ahead of me - i really hope it works for me! And you too.

Be careful with it though, get your dr to do constant monitoring. I also ovulate on my own and my first 2 cycles were fine. This cycle i had 4 mature follies and over this past weekend i was in the hospital with cysts that were 4 cm each + a hemotoma.. Verry dangerous!

Wow, RebaRezzelba! We are both 31 and both been trying for 30 months. I just got prescribed it too and took it for my first cycle but we are doing IUI with it. I'll keep you posted.

Oh thanks, Sonyabazonya. I'll bring that up with him when I go in for IUI, I don't think of they are doing any monitoring...maybe when I go in for IUI. This is just the first cycle so maybe If I end up having to do it more they will monitor. I'm glad they monitored you and found it!!

Hey Mamamirfy - thats crazy we are both on the exact same page!!! I'll be 32 next month though!!! Maybe when I start clomid i'll get pregnant the 1st month and that will be age 32 and trying for 32 months!!!!

My FS told me to bypass the IUI and go straight to IVF which I did but I dont want IVF so I postponed it for a year (should be called for it again next april). I wish i had went for the IUI now. I have another FS appointment and I might ask about going on the waiting list cos I just dont want to go down the IVF route. Im already panicking about taking the clomid - hate messing with mothernature.

Well I wish you the best of luck with the clomid and IUI - let me know how you get on.

Hey Rebarezzelba! I hope it works for you. I don't know about Ireland but in Canada IUI is about $300, theres no wait list. IVF is $10,000. Dr said he can't see us needing that, phew! We will try the IUI/Clomid for 4 cycles...but hopefully we will only have to use it once. Can you ring them and tell them you changed your mind about IUI?

Hi Mamamirfy :)

I just wanted to wish you luck and ask you what IUI is...? My sil wants to ask her doctor about clomid and well... she wants the best chance possible in getting pregnant again... just thought I would ask since you are in canada too!

Hi!!! It's artificial insemination :) It's only $300. They take my hubby's sperm and wash it and inject the possible ones into my uterus when I ovulate. Hope that helps.

Hi hun,

I too was prescribed Clomid eventhough I ovulate on my own. I also did my 2nd IUI on Friday...and I had 3 eggs. I think the thinking behind taking Clomid with IUI is so it gives you a better chance of getting pregnant.

Good Luck!

Ohhhh, thanks! I'm going in today!!! I hope the check to see how many I have, I'm so curious. Good luck to you Chriss 77 - please keep me updated :)
