Present/s for first birthday, ideas please

We got our baby a smart trike, a Peek-A-Shoe Octopus toy (you put a ball in and then guess which shoe it's under - good for hand-eye coordination and teaches colours/numbers, has music and songs, etc.), some touchy-feely Usborne books which she loves, lift-the-flap books which she also loves, a star projector with lullabies/nature sounds for her room and a Lamaze Octotunes octopus. Hard to say which is the biggest hit as she loves them all lol. Smart trikes I would say are definitely a great 'main' present.

Thank you Meep, they do have similar kind of things to what you mention, but not a trike. I don't think I could handle two though and I'm looking into getting a double one, not easy to find though

Hmm yes, I see your dilemma! There is this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/trike-cherry-apple-green-stock/dp/B00D2SNG1W

But omg, the cost!!! D:

The cost plus delivery, and then imagine they don't like it, DH will kill me  :haha: I haven't completely let go of the idea though.

We got our daughter a wheely bug. It was a great gift. She was still a little too small to ride it then (she's small for her age), but she's 2.5 now and still rides on it almost daily, so it was a good buy.

I had a google of the wheely bug and they are so cute! My first thought was to get something like this but I might be leaving it til Christmas as they might be more of an age of using it by then. The twins are still 10 months so I have some time to think about their pressies. I think of things and then think they would be better when a bit older. Its a pity they can't choose themselves, they soon will I suppose!

I'm tempted to buy a wagon for our two after seeing a woman in town with one. So far we've discussed little gifts like books, bath toys and crayons. I have no idea what to buy as a main gift

What sort of wagon? Do you have a link?

Phone is useless with links but if you Google 'Step 2 neighbourhood wagon' a few should come up. The one I was looking at was around £70 on Amazon x

I got my daughter and my friends 2 children a keepsake teddy, made of their old baby clothes. For instance Amelia had the sleepsuit she first wore, the one she came home in, my favourite one, a bow of the dress she was wearing when we scattered my dads ashes and loads more. They are wonderful keepsakes.
We got them from babydoodahs.com

Simple gift, but my daughter loved it: stacking cubes. Builds high to a tower, open on one side so they can nest. She thought it hilarious to watch the tower go up (and fall down) when she was one, and then later that year loved nesting the blocks herself. Get the cardboard ones, not wood. There will be a lot of tumbling towers!

Can I just ask, does your LO really use crayons? I never considered it with my two, I am sure all they would do is try to chew them or throw them  I am artistic though so looking forward to all of that

Haven't tried him with anything like that yet but I'm sure he'll have some interest by the time he turns one. He's more interested in his feet and reflection at the moment :dohh:

For first birthday, our ds1 had a Little Tikes car, the one where you get in it - in UK most kids seem to have one, like some kind of rite of passage into toddlerhood! Plus some other big play equipment for the garden. :) x

Mine have never eaten crayons, even my 9 month old tries to scribble with them (she just bashes the paper)

I agree with the step 2, wagon, I have seen them and they are awesome! I was considering getting it for my two younger girls.

Scuttlebug, bilibos, cozy coupes, slide, seesaw, ball popper, push along animal (on a stick) pull along toys

I wanted to get the wagon but then thought id have to pull 60-70lbs around whereas least in a buggy im pushing it.

bigger toys -
little tikes activity garden playcentre - they love this and play with it every single day.

Fisher price laugh and learn crawl around car. got this at xmas and still really enjoy it 8 months later

some good things we have that both kiddies like -

little people playschool
the toot toot cars and animals (dont really like the tracks etc as they rip them to peices but enjoy the singing cars)
building blocks. you get squeaky plastic ones for really cheap and there a hit!
slide if you have a garden

I've seen swing sets with those weird flying seesaw looking things on. No idea what they're actually called but could be a good idea, depending on garden size. At least they'll get a good 5-10 years of use out of it :)

also my kids both love getting their shopping baskets and filling them with these little people and random things. https://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q564/catherinerobertson89/Mobile%20Uploads/20150812_204402_zpsd5z5qssz.jpghttps://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q564/catherinerobertson89/Mobile%20Uploads/20150812_204402_zpsd5z5qssz.jpg

I don't really remember what Violet got for her first birthday, but she wasn't that into toys. Getting things for the kid to grow into over the course of the year can be a good option too. Here are some things Violet liked between the ages of 1 and 2:

  • Duplo
  • Books
  • Pull along toys
  • Cute/colorful clothes
  • Stuffed animals
  • Dolls
  • Toy cars
  • Toy dishes
  • Simple puzzles such as this
The fun thing about the puzzles linked above is that they can still play with the animal shapes before they're developmentally ready to do the actual puzzle.
