Present/s for first birthday, ideas please

catty, at the moment my two like emptying but don't seem to want to fill, I suppose its to come!

So many lovely ideas, I have quite a bit to go on, I'll have to google it all. I don't think I want a cart, they would fit, but I can imagine them trying to get out and I'd worry near busy roads, it would also be heavy as they are fatties.

They have lots of cloth books, I got lots of bundles of used ones, popped them in the washing machines and were as good as new. But they haven't any flip ones yet, so I will certainly get them a couple.

I also have the idea of getting them a ball poppin device, something like these two

(Looking at it now I think maybe the second one will be better for two babies)

Oh one of amelia's nursery friends bought her a voucher for a local pottery painting studio - i thought that was a really original idea and would be something she can keep as well. Not that i've had a chance to use it yet!

I have an Iggle Piggle for our DD so far and some Vtech toot cars and some fabric food. I am considering some mega blocks or some wooden Jigsaws and a few books she loves the touch and feel ones.

Have you considered a swing or a slide?

I'm trying to be restrained with my purchases and not get carried away x

Dd's got several presents from family members and myself between 11-14 months, any of those could work as a 1st birthday present:
-Pull along toys
-Vtech hello kitty laptop (she plays with it in car rides along with a small vtech car that also plays music)
-A small bag with little hair ties that she wears as bracelets
-Little tikes car (stays at grandmother's house)
-Push along walker that plays music and talks (stays at other grandmother's house)
-Building blocks (a set at our place, and a set for each grandmother's house)
-Stuffed toys that she cuddles
-Toy kitchen with plates, spoons, food, etc. This one is meant for an older child but she loved it, it was given to her after she had started walking comfortably. She loved pretending to wash things in the toy sink part of it.

Putting things back in baskets/boxes will eventually come. One of dd's favorite games used to be taking my underwear out of the drawer and sometimes wearing it on her head :haha: but now she puts things back in, too. Not necessarily in the right place but we're working on it.

She also enjoyed sitting in her toy basket so that in itself was like a toy.

Personally the building blocks were what I chose to give her and honestly I think it's what she enjoys the most and plays with the most. Before ds was born dh, dd & I would sit together and build stuff out of the blocks and dd really loves it.

DD2 is getting:
-Smart trike (well, she's already had this since May as I wanted her to be able to use it over the summer as her birthday is September)
-Cabbage Patch newborn doll
-Books
-Fisher Price blocks for the play wall she already has
-Accessories for the Fisher Price little people Disneyland playset that MIL is getting her

We have quite a lot already from DD1 and are limited with space/finances so didn't want to overdo it. If she gets birthday money i'd like to get her a mirror for the tuff spot tray we have.

Enjoying reading all the suggestions :)
Our LO turns one next week and is getting a scuttlebug (first trike), toddler trampoline (hoping it will get lots of use over winter) and music set x

I'm getting LO a ring stacker, shape sorter, musical book, some toy cars, maybe a ball popper and a small rocking horse for his room. My mother has got him this and a cute ride on with a fire engine theme: https://www.amazon.co.uk/VTech-Baby...8&qid=1439894935&sr=8-1&keywords=feed+me+dino

I'm going to save building blocks etc for Christmas, and some more toot toot cars stuff then.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. It certainly gave me a lot to look at and think about. They change so quickly its sometimes hard to get perspective on what is the best toy for the next months. I thought I would let you know what I had decided on, and then once they open their presents give a review on what worked and didn't work (but might work in x months time).

So I first got them both a gloworm. I always liked them as a child, and thought it would be nice for them to have in their cots. Maybe they will give it a hug, see it light up and peacefully go back to sleep, instead of getting me up every single night  (they have some lovely soothers, but those sort of things seem to wake them up more than anything else now they are older)

I got them a ball popper to share. This was before I had the incident of one twin nearly (half) putting a ball from a chicco activity walker in his mouth, so a bit wary of this one, but hoping it will be okay under supervision. They are supposed to be big enough for a baby not to put them in their mouth, but maybe his mouth is on the big size? No idea, but anyway, hoping they enjoy this one.

I got them so musical blocks

I got them some lift the flap books, card ones. They have a lot of cloth books, that also have flaps, I showed one to them already, and they seem a bit rough on the flaps though they are very interested in them. I have to keep stopping them from breaking them.

Now is where things get a bit mad...

I have been looking at action blocks for some time. I was also intrigued by the wall thing Buttercup mentioned. So firstly I got the action blocks

I wasn't convinced by the wall, and personally found it a lot of money to get it shipped here for what it seemed to do (not that I'm saying that a toy has to do "much" or have batteries, it just felt something was lacking). In the US there is another version of the wall thing, but had a lot more to it. More like a table. It came with what was called peek a block, and I fell in love with them. A peek a block is like a small activity block, its from Fisher Price, and they often interact with other toys you can by. (Everything below I purchased second hand, as I was really out of budget by now)

I got them both a Gobble and Go pushing hippo. It has two modes, one for pushing, and then as a ride. It eats up the peek a blocks from the floor, so I thought when they are older they can play at seeing who eats up more blocks. I then got a massive pack of peek a block which also includes the alphabet. I want to use these at work (I'm a teacher), so really excited about them, I generally get very excited about teaching material and toys lol.

I then got two more toys to share, that work with the peek a blocks. A train and a push a long elephant.

They also have a lot of toys for 1 to 3 years already because of me buying bundle lots online from ebay. I recommend this as you end up with toys you never knew existed.

these look great! lots of variety and my two both love the activity block things and flap book.. well any books cant go wrong with books haha

We have a track and cars set for baby and he if likes that we will probably get toot toot for xmas, books, bookcase, watermat, craft things, a little pushchair or shopping trolley to help him walk, loads of noisy toys lol

Just thought I'd update. They generally like their pressies!

The poppity dino: they seem more interested in the orange button in the middle than the actual balls popping, but yes, they like it. I put dummies and things in there for them to grab.

Peek a blocks in general: they like them, and they will most certainly grow more and more into them. I've become addicted and did buy the incrediblock in the end. They like it too but mummy more lol I love trying to find hidden words in it! I've separated some things for Christmas though, as it was just too much

Action blocks, they like them, I do recommend! So much to press push and flip!

Glowworms. Nope, not a good idea, I've put them away for the future. They threw them far with disgust and I'm not too happy with the battery/bulb section only secured with velcro. No way they are having them in their cots!

Now planning for christmas
